My dealer didn't give me free oil changes for 2 years, but did give me 2 free oil changes. My car has 3500 miles and I've already used up one of the free changes.

In canada:
Plus, with Chevrolet Complete Care1 select scheduled maintenance services are covered in the first 2 years or 48,000 kilometres—including oil changes with filter.

Unless it is different in US, GM is offering free oil change for the first 2 years of any vehicles bought new. I bought mine in 2016.

Not true. The GM olms doesn't look at time as a variable to changing the oil. It looks at mileage and driving conditions..temp..idleing time..etc. in other words if you do a lot of stop and go city driving it will tell you to change it sooner then if you do alot of highway driving. The oil can be in the car for a year and it won't change anything. Hth

You do get 2 services in the first 2 years or 24k miles whichever comes first. All GM vehicles get that. Even certified pre-owned. Look at your window sticker it will say it on there.

If it were my new car, i would just have the oil changed when the OLM was below 20% instead of resetting the OLM and using the same old used oil for the hot upcoming summer; especially since the first 2 oil changes at the dealer are free; and especially since the cars are GDI. Just my 2 cents FWIW........

image is part of a document straight from my GM dealer...i questioned same thing when my oil life dropped 25% after sitting 4 months in storage this winter...oil itself may be ok...but the oil life system has its parameters it calculates % from...

I would not do that. It is showing that percentage for a variety of reasons as others have articulated so just get the oil changed. It is cheap insurance on a new car and if you randomly reset at a point other than a fresh change, you run unnecessary risk for the sake of a few bucks.

Quite right. Drive until OLM gets to 10% (or when the change oil soon message appears) and change it then.

I don't think I've ever looked at my Oil Monitor on the dash. All I know is I've done
12 oil changes in 8 years and 47,000 miles on my '10 SS. Just old school i guess.

Yea I'm going to change mine every 3-4K miles. The oil on the direct injection gets dirty faster with the blow by from the motor. Plus the blow by has small amounts of gas that will stay in the oil and break it down faster

Dealer changed my oil on 7/24/2017. I have not yet driven 3000 miles since then (car was put away for the winter) and I am down to like 20%. Seems crazy.
