Oil % remaining low with low miles
So my Camaro has less than 1200 miles and the oil % remaining is like 15%.
Anyone know why it would be so low with low miles on car?

Oil life monitor % is calculated using 3 things...12 months , 7500 miles and engine revolutions...

car has 1200 miles period. none of that other stuff matters. There should be over 50% remaining

it is a 2016 that I got brand new. Maybe the 12 month thing lowered the oil % monitor but it still seems extremely low.

Yes that other stuff does matter. It's also based on a 12 month timeframe. So without driving a single mile, if the car is been sitting for six months, oil will read 50%

If that is true then it makes sense.
I guess I should reset it since I know its low miles. I don't think sitting for 6 months will make the oil actually bad.

Bought my '17 in April, was built in Dec '16 - oil life showed 98% when I first looked at it (couple of hundred miles at that point). So the time doesn't factor in immediately as Glen suggested, but my start at some point later on.

It Factors in as soon as the PDI is done on the car and when it is reset at a change.

Yeah, my Tahoe was 69% one day then 0% the next day.
That was exactly 12 months after the prior oil reset. Don't drive it much.... |

This wont be an issue now that I drive it every day. it should be illegal to let a camaro sit without being driven a lot.

Just change the oil as GM is offering free oil change for the first 2 years. But I understand it is important and interesting to know why this is happening.

I don't think they offered me free oil changes for 2 years. is that for a 17 only?
