I agree that watching a nice car get totaled sucks.

I based on my comments on reply #7 when they said he was on bald tires due to excessive drag racing. He should have never been a track and could have not only hurt himself but someone else. I replace my tires at the slightest show of wear or sidewall damage. Expensive sport but you have to pay to play safe....

I got ya, my point was no one really knows. Doubtless, lots of people have an idea or opinion but there are a lot of factors that go into accidents. I would reserve judgement until the dude came out and said "here's what happened".

Very bad wreck good to see there is little damage around the driver's area, this could have been much worse. I hope he has the track insurance if not this will be an extremely expensive day.

Problem with these cars is that while they are capable of putting up monster times with a pro driver at the wheel, put a novice in the car with multiple laps and tire wear at this power level and this can be the result.

Turn 1 is a bit tricky at Pacific Raceways, I've seen other crashes there before. This is a high speed corner and if someone doesn't pay attention to the maintenance throttle it may result in a lift off oversteer and crash easily. This may or may not be the case here of course:

Well, he took the entire front wheel off. That means he had to hit something solid. From watching some of that venue track video with all of the hard barriers on that track I would guess he got in an early oversteer situation and clipped a wall at the apex. Could be the tires were not up to temp yet or could be simple track debris.... could be a lot of things. S#!t happens. I've spun or gone off track several times in my lifetime but knock on wood... never had any major car damage. I must admit that track does not look like the ideal venue to push the limits of the car. I prefer more curbing and run off areas.

I like what the instructor at one of the class sessions said; "Electronic Nannies are your friend. Leave them turned on."

Tracking on worn tires is not very smart and you are surely asking for it.

I hate seeing this on the internet. Not the actual damaged car, but photos or videos of wrecks at track days unless they were put out by the vehicle owner. It's just poor taste and is one of those unwritten rules of track day etiquette. Don't take photos of wrecked cars during a track day and put them out in the universe.

Golf is the most expensive sport, then being a pilot. So tires are cheap.

Wow! That's terrifying. You're right about paying attention, though, if you didn't already know that was there, you would have never been able to correct in time to complete that turn.

These pics and vids are quite sobering. I cringe when I read threads on internet forums about amateurs in street cars with 6 or 7 hundred horsepower making top end runs of 190-200 MPH and honestly believing that they are good to go at those ridiculous speeds. They are not. Leave those speeds to the pros guys.
