Does this have anything to do with how the sound starts to distort and speakers rattle while driving, but while at a standstill it sounds fine? I've already turned off the speed based volume but that didn't help.

Non-Bose 1SS's and 1LT's with LTG engines still have it.

Could be. It turns off at idle RPM.

Some of us want to enjoy the car at its fullest. For people like me that can't be done with a factory audio system.

my first thought is did they add a Digital line converter ? Again no component list makes it pretty hard to help.
had the system pulled out and returned to stock. AC is fine was a plug they unplugged .... I want to just upgrade the rear speakers for some reason they are just anemic seem worse than before not sure what to do was thinking to upgrade front 6 by 9 and rear 6 by 9 don't trust a 3500 dollar install only to have the stock sound better... what needs to be done to do a speaker upgrade? I really don't want to deal with amp

I feel like you probably need to consult enthusiasts in your area to find a more reputable shop.

Once you find this shop, ask to sit in a couple of the shop cars that are built for Sound Quality and ask them to walk you through what makes a good system.

Then give a listen to every speaker they recommend BUT ask them to play a song that you know by heart (and have heard either in-concert OR on a really good home stereo). I ask them to play Hotel California (the Hell Freezes Over / live version). Whatever sounds best TO YOUR EARS is what you want.

I always bring my 30th anniversary hybrid SACD/CD remastered Dark Side of the Moon to any where I'm auditioning audio equipment. Whether it's for the home or car. I know exactly what every note of every instrument should sound like on any given track. The hair on the back of your neck should stand up sharp as needles in David Gilmour's guitar solo on Time.

If it doesn't, quite frankly, your system sucks.

The Bose system in this car sucks. Honestly most factory systems suck. I'm not at audiophile levels where I'm investing $8500 into an Electrocomponet SACD player made out of one solid piece of billet aluminum, or $50,000 into a Tenor hybrid tube/solid state output 750 watt amplifier that has .0001% THD stable down to 1 ohm at 98 db through omni-directional $70,000/pair MBL speakers - although listening to a system like that it truly life altering.

Where was I going with this?

This is the way to do it. Play tracks you are COMPLETELY familiar with.

It would be nice if this car had a "luxury" mode which drastically quieted the cabin, but that's not this car. I also think the run flats are a real barrier to enjoying both the stereo and the exhaust sounds. But I am too cheap to trash them with only 2000 miles on the car.

Front staging is what most audiophiles actually go for...the rear is just to fill the rest of the stage but should be secondary to the fronts.

Formout, the 1SS doesn't have rear speakers in the deck so, yes, most of the sound comes from front. I couldn't believe it when I checked my trunk and saw there were no speakers there. There are no wires or amp for deck speakers so all that needs to be added but the main amp is in the trunk.

If I had a 1SS, I would have my audio guy mount a couple subs in the holes that are there for the Bose deck speakers.

The cool thing is that the battery is right there in the trunk so it is pretty easy to wire up an amp as long as you can get signal from the other rear speakers. No need to run RCA and power lines from the engine bay makes for a really easy install.

I would like a bit more even power coming from the rear speakers , I don't feel surrounded from the speakers they are anemic.. .whats the easier solution can I just have the rear changed and the front for a slightly better sound? the whole amp sub thing didn't work out....
