I test drove mine with the salesman in the car and reached triple digit speed on the highway. He didn't bat an eye.

I drove that car for about 8 months thinking I would get use to the red and I never did. I traded it in about a month ago on a 2017. I got a great deal on the 2017 (about 9 under MSRP) but I am still out more money then I would have been if I would have been more patient and bought exactly what I wanted the first time.

The red hot is a gorgeous car. It just didn't fit my personality.

By the way the dealer I bought mine from has several 1SS and 2SS on the lot and they are basically all 8-9K off MSRP. If you want their info PM me.
So what color did you go with?!?! tell me it was black! i'm just massively in love with the color black on cars

Me too. And I think the 6th Gen looks even better in black than the 5th Gen cars do!

In defense of dealers, I sold cars briefly when I was in my twenties. You get people who come in, are upside down on their car, and want to go for an extended drive off of any recommended route.

It's the equivalent of kidnapping.
I always go well off the recommended route. I look at it from the standpoint that short of buying a home your car is the most expensive purchase you make. Should you really make that purchase based on a 10 minute drive down some predefined route? I usually drive cars for at least an hour, and if my decision isn't to buy I tip my salesman $40 for his time. Now my dealership just lets me take them home for a couple days.

Yep exactly. When I test drove the Mustang GT back in July I came in with a route in mind where I wanted to take the car to see how it drives on windy roads( would only put ~20 miles on the car) despite the salesman letting us go solo, there was no gas in the cars which kept the test drive short. Did my best to find some curvy roads, but never felt like I could get an idea what the car was capable of.

My Chevy dealer on the other hand had plenty of gas in the Camaro's and didn't mind how long we were out( we advised the salesman of our plans of course). I was able to take the Camaro every time I test drove it on the route I planned and it adequately gave me an idea what the Camaro was capable of.

Though don't think being able to go out in the Mustang as long as I wanted would have changed the results because even that short of a drive, I could tell the Camaro drove better than the Mustang. But still, I would not have been satisfied with a dealers usual 1-3 mile test drive loop. How on earth do you expect a person to determine if they like the car to buy it with only driving it for 1-3 miles?

Yeah I would definitely need to a see a red hot in person. Red is my favorite color anyways but the pictures I've seen online always seem to differ slightly from one and another. On these forums they looked amazing but the random ones I've came across on Google seemed off putting. Otherwise my main choice would be black, I've always had a soft spot for that color on my cars. And it'll match the rest of our driveway vehicles.

UPDATE: I called yesterday and made sure to get a different salesperson (A forum member recommended this guy) and told him about the situation. He told me to come in tomorrow while he's on shift and to give him a shout and he'll work something out. This time around the manager will be on shift so I can give him a nice talking too if they further reject me. But I have a fairly good feeling I'll get the test drive this time around. I'm just hoping the weather will hold up now since it looks a bit cloudy with potential to rain

I had an experience like this with a Corvette at a large volume dealer. Salesman said I had to buy the car in order to drive it.

So I got up and started walking out. He said, "Wait. Let me check your credit score and I'll see what I can do."

So I sat down and waited for a good ten minutes. Finally the guy comes with the key and we walk out to the lot. I get in the car, turn the key, and "click click click". Not enough juice.

The salesman says, "Wait, I'll get a jump start for you."

I say, "No thanks." I proceed to the Porsche dealer across the street and soon am test driving a Boxter.

I end up ordering a Camaro at my local dealer. He lets me test drive one, of course, only it's a V6 'cause that's all he has. I am his first SS sale. Now I have a great car and great service from a place where they know my name.

I had a salesman pull this on me. I'm 29 and look younger, but was serious about purchasing. After arguing to test drive, him "getting permission" from the manager and dealing with his comments about being careful, its a lot of power, putting it in tour mode, setting me up to only drive about 1/4 mile, and a million other comments about getting a 4 cylinder, etc, he kicked me out of the car when I was still looking at it. I let it go, but knew they lost my business for life. A few days later I got an email on my "experience". I tore into them and within 5 mins had emails from multiple people including the manager asking me to come back in and he would give me a great discount. Needless to say I bought almost that exact car (w/mag ride) somewhere else.

I never had any issues with them letting me test drive them. When I asked if I could take it for a drive with just my wife and no salesman they cringed and made me give them proof of insurance and drivers license and sign a 24 hr lease paper that gave it to me for free for the day and said return it when I was done test driving it. They said that the lease paperwork was for insurance purposes.

Weird. Here in southern Georgia, I am only 19, I was 18 at the time, drove not 1, not 2, or 3, but 5 2016 Camaros in a period of 2 weeks, all SS's. And even drove a Scatpack. Though I did buy one of the SS's, the Scatpack was just for fun. It sucks that it didn't go as planned for you. The bs about the paperwork is nonsense. To me atleast

UPDATE: Good news yesterday. I popped up and called the other contact I had who told me he'll handle it. Gave him a shout when I arrived, he was busy with someone and I had to wait about 10 minutes but once he was done he came up to me with the assistant manager and threw the keys at me. No license, no papers, told me to give er a run. Unfortunately my brother couldn't ride along with me since we all know no body can fit in the back but he'll get his chance once I purchase. I had the chance to play around with the metallic blue 2SS with MRC and NPP. The assistant manager rode along with me and gave me a quick intro to starting her up and playing around with the settings. Then off we go

One things for sure is that they weren't kidding at all with the visibility. I was going on a slow windy downhill driveway off the dealership and I could hardly tell where I was going. And the buddy in the passenger seat was sitting a little too forward for my liking. I probably should have spent more time adjusting the seat and finding the sweet spot but I got a little too excited when I turned her on
What I loved about it is that if you just lightly accelerate it trots around fairly quietly. But just digging in even a quarter to half way into the pedal and that thing roars and throws everything back. Thank god for the HUD because I could easily see myself getting out of hand with the speed limit. All in all it would without a doubt take some time to get use to it but I think I'll be sold

When the ride was over the guy showed me some of their pricing/financing options I had and to give it a thought when I have a chance too. He told me about a student/graduate discount which was nice of him. Before I left he's like don't worry anymore we'll take good care of you here.

Now it's just a matter of withdrawing my down payment and picking the one I want I can't wait. Still undecided on the colors though. I'll have to check their inventory properly when I drop by next time.

Rode with my sister in her POS Grand Am once and we stopped to look at a Titan. It was a few years old and they had it on the lot for 22K. Salesman wouldnt even walk out to meet me. I walked up there and asked for the keys and he brushed me off. He dicked around and finally got the keys for it and unlocked it with the remote from the showroom but still wouldnt walk out there with me and did not hand me the keys.

I walked back up and asked for the manager. Told the manager that I wanted him to test drive with me. Didnt buy it that day but asked what salesman was off that day. Called the next day and asked for that salesman. Negotiated over the phone with him and bought it.

When I picked it up I walked by the original salesmans desk with my salesman and said "this could have been your sale yesterday."

I was talking to a supposedly reputable dealership in my area and they said to me basically since it's a 455 HP corvette engine and it's real serious business I'll basically have to buy the car first and get the paperwork done before even getting the chance to test drive one. They also went off mentioning it'll probably be the same at Ford and Dodge too if I try to go for their Mustang/Challengers.

Personally I found this to be a completely backwards mentality and apparently this message came from the manager himself.. Just regurgitated through the salesman over the phone. I found a deposit to be something more realistic but actual purchase beforehand? This isn't a GTR or lambo we're talking about..

With that being said I found out I have a possible connection through my brother in law so I'll see if that inside guy can pull some strings or help us out instead. Otherwise I'll let them know that I'm more than happy to take my business else where
Leave as fast as you can. Go on yelp leave bad review. Go on Google leave bad review, go on Facebook leave bad review. Then go somewhere else buy another car and enjoy. :-)
