M6 quarter mile times
Hey guys so I'm having a hard time at the track. I haven't gotten to run it in the quarter since the modifications. But I ran it in the 1/8th I was running like an 8.01 at 98. Which is terrible and translates to like a 12.3. But I couldn't find the right amount of power to launch. Seems like 2600rpms would nearly stall and 2800 would blow the tires off. I just need a lot more practice. But what is everyone running in the quarter?

Well we've got one member who has run 11.7s with his stock manual. I'm sure he'll chime in once he sees this post.

You'll find some great info over at the 1/4m drag threads. Btw, his name is Cal (C Webster) and you'll find some very detailed info on his lessons learned at the track and practice with videos (which r on YouTube as well)
Here is his thread...http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=485926

I know you guys love the sticks but A10 will just kill it at the drag strip, you need drag radials or slicks with the M6

(oh, unless you have traction control on.. then it will just cut the engine power when the wheels spin, which feels awful and does not make for good times) you have to apply throttle and slip the clutch just the right amount to get maximum launch without spinning tires. hard to do, especially consistently, and definitely hard on the clutch..... an automatic has all the advantages here. no drag racing for me....unless you want to set your car up for drag racing I don't see the point. i'm not gonna beat the crap out of my car. See below for info on what I've learned over the past 5 months since I got my new 6th Gen ZL1. I'm happy to share what I've learned. Quote:

Big Dave is right. There is a lot of great information in the discussion group "Dragstrip and Launching Discussion". That's where the thread Dave linked is located. That discussion group is populated by a wide range of very knowledgeable, experienced, skilled drivers; including "Big Dave", "layno", "PRAY", and many others. It's where I get much of my information and tips when I've got questions. They're all great people and eager to help. Here are links to the threads I've started in my journey to get faster with this beautiful beast. Some contain questions and other members answers. Others just describe the fun I had and what I learned at various events. I always try to be detailed enough to satisfy those craving details but organized so that those who want the "Cliff Notes" can skim over. My experiments while getting to know the car before bringing it to the track: ZL1 Launch Control PDR Videos Initial Post: 01-13-2017, 05:41 PM 6th Gen ZL1 practice with launch and no-lift shift Initial Post: 01-24-2017, 11:51 AM 11.4 ET 6th Gen ZL1 Using Custom Launch Controls Initial Post: 01-27-2017, 07:48 PM Detailed posts on my track sessions: 6th Gen ZL1 M6 Broke into 11's at track Initial Post: 01-30-2017, 02:55 PM 6thGen ZL1 1/4 mile Initial Post: 01-16-2017, 03:22 PM 11's on Street Rubber ** This has been updated with my most recent visit where I finally attained my goal of 11.7's Initial Post: 02-28-2017, 02:41 AM My experiences at Bondurant Racing School before taking delivery: Bondurant Racing School Initial Post: 10-06-2016, 12:40 PM Bondurant Racing School - Whether you track or not Initial Post: 12-20-2016, 05:43 PM As Big Dave also mentioned, you can also visit my YouTube channel to scroll through the playlists I've setup with passes from each track visit listed in chronological order. All my PDR, GoPro, and Spectator videos are there as well. However, my drag strip visits are recorded in the greatest detail right here, though, in the threads above. My YouTube Playlists My recommendation is to take your time and ask a lot of questions. Do the research on your own too. You'll learn a lot more that way and you'll get answers that best suit your own needs. --Cal |
