On a side note, I never have heard of this being a problem with LT4. I have been also watching the C7 Z06 forum and have never have heard of this issue.

Not at liberty to say lol i don't want it to become a thread for mocking or anything like that. Was just curious if this was something anyone else had heard about. Because i dont want to void warranty if this is a issue or if someone just messed up somehow.

This is most likely the one LT4 Z that blew up here a couple months ago.

It was modded to the hilt and I believe he's going back twin turbo now.

I figure anyone who has the money to buy a new ZL1, mod it, and not give a shit about the warranty, can afford to fix it when/if it blows up. So in total, its really a non-issue.

Besides, a replacement (crate version) of the LT4 can be had for about $16K...maybe have a shop strengthen the bottom end and let her rip!

Not that it's necessarily a lot in the big scheme of things but considering the ZL1 LT4 hasn't been out long...I'd say that's probably a descent amount of mileage so far.

In stock, did you mean Houston Stock? Or Stock from the factory? Either way, something just seems fishy around here. I have seen plenty of modded LT4s in for repair and I have never heard of anything like this before. Most of us are going to raise the BS flag without knowing any specifics.

ya but the tubes are located at the bottom if im not mistaken, and the biggest build zl1 right now are cam only cars. Now you do have to pull the oil pan off to get the timing cover off and such but wouldn't imagine hitting those tubes but maybe that's what happened. Because a tune, meth ect is not going to move those if the bottom end hasn't been messed with.

but again, I've personally assembled LS motors several times and have never messed with an LT so I do not have a clue because I've been out of the game for a few years. I know there are people way more fresh on it than I am besides obviously the forum sponsors who build these cars weekly lol

just thought this was a good thread to start since in some way or another it did happen and wanted to see if anyone else had heard of this.

That looks like a cast piston? Aren't the LT4 pistons forged?

Your dead on.. I think the biggest ZL1 built right now was all bolt ons, Meth, e85, and Cam. So no reason at all should the engine be pulled for that, let alone have anything to do with the oil squirters.

So does this worry me, absolutely because I will be modding my car like the mods listed above. But again I have never seen a problem like this before with the LT4 (well at least not in the Z06s), so was it just a fluke (expensive fluke) or will we be seeing more of these issues.

Pulled from the GM site: Forged aluminum pistons with flat top crown that supports the 10.1 compression ratio and internal ribs for strength (similar to the LS9 piston design). A premium ring pack includes a PVD-coated top ring, chrome-coated second compression ring and a nitrided oil control ring – all for exceptional wear resistance and durability under high cylinder pressure. The bottom ring land also features eight oil drains

Stock...I don't think that was a stock car otherwise it would've gone to a dealership for service/repair....the shop is dealing in alternative facts here
