It was a 1985 Buick Regal Limited. It was her first car she ever bought that was "fully loaded" with power everything, cruise, tilt wheel, and she was very proud of it. The first time it was stolen from a home and garden center about 4 miles from our house in 1986 when I was 9. She was getting new tomato stakes for her garden, we were in there 10 minutes tops. It had less than 5,000 miles on it at the time.

They found it in the 'hood of Cleveland two weeks later, luckily only missing the wheels, radio, and obviously the steering column was busted up. So it was fixed up perfectly like new and my Mom got it back.

The second time was right out of my Grandparents (her parents) driveway in 1988. It was in the middle of summer, middle of the afternoon, on a hot sunny day. And my Grandfather was on the roof of the garage working on it when the SOB ran up the driveway, got in, hotwired it, and peeled out!!!

Now, my Grandfather was a WWII vet and saw action in New Guinea and Guam so a lowlife thug car thief was nothing to him even at about 65 that he was at the time. I was watching all of this happen with my own eyes at 11 years old as my Grandparent's dog started barking when he ran up the driveway and we all ran to the side porch to see what was going on BTW.....

My Grandfather slid down the ladder, ran into the garage in HIS car which was a beautiful but slow as molasses 1985 Cadillac Eldorado, he peels out of the garage to go after him down the street.

Meanwhile the dog is going bonkers, my Mom is pissed, my Grandmother is confused, and again I'm 11 years old and just like "WTF" lol

So after my Mom called the cops and they came to the house, my Grandfather got back after about a half hour and couldn't find him. After 30 days of not finding it the insurance wrote it off and gave my Mom the check. With which she bought a 1988 Bonneville.

Car thieves deserve to have their finger and toe nails torn out with tweezers and a concoction of salt, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol poured into them.
Brother,, I pity the fool that jacks with your cars

Glad you were able to prevent your car from getting stolen and help to catch the thieves. They got what they deserved.

I have my doors set to passively lock, but I still push the lock button on the INSIDE of the door every time I get out of the car.

Worst feeling in the world is to actually watch your car being stolen, right in front of your eyes. So happy you and your buddy got to beat the crap out of those punks. Feels like retribution for the two thugs who stole my Mom's car 30 years ago!

I'm gonna show her this thread.

BTW, she's 67 now and just bought a 2016 Corvette in October.

So uh, got any proof or is it just what you typed out? I can't be the only one here that thinks this is too good to be true. Police report, news report? I mean I know it can happen but all the other stuff you typed and the cops laughed it off and moved on with life, that doesn't usually happen. Either way good story.

Can someone with actual authoritative knowledge help us out here?
Like someone else said, their device amplifies the bubble around the car so it thinks the key is within 3 feet of the car when it's actually inside the owners home/work/etc.
Any car with keyless entry is venerable to this attack. Only way to prevent it is to put your keys in one of those faraday bags.

It's a good story, I won't believe it until I see proof though. It is the internet after all and I've heard plenty of fake stories. If it is true and you have the video I'd love to see it. If not, it was a good read.

This is a real issue, so I don't doubt it not happening, I'm just jaded. lol

The signal blocker pouch will only work against a RF amplifier. If I understand correctly, what it does is capture the unlock signal when you press your unlock button on the vehicle, and shoots it out waaaay further than the foot you need to be for it to work normally. So say your FOB is left in your house, a crook goes up to your car with an amplifier, presses the unlock button on your car, the amplifier hijacks and amplifies that signal to reach your FOB, FOB says "this is my car", and then that unlocks the car. Same thing for the crook to start it and or program a blank FOB to work with your car once inside.

This isn't even the scariest part. Some cars are so vulnerable that a hacker could take complete control of the vehicle remotely. It's one thing (more likely) to have your car stolen, it's another to have your car hijacked remotely with you in it.

At this point I knew somebody around my car was pulling this, so I relocked her and went into the parts store and told my buddy who work there somebody is trying to steal my car. So he grabbed an aluminum baseball bat from under the counter, and we watched for anybody to approach my car Man I still have the chills from this,,,

We watch as this skinny guy slowly walks close to my car, then go's up to the drivers side door, we took off running towards my car just as the guy opened the door. Somebody in another car started honking, so we new there were two of them. Well my buddy went right to that car, and ripped the guy out of it, as I did one of the stupidest things I 've done in day's,,,lol
I did a WWF flying jump on the guy about to climb in my car, and broke the guys nose with a head butt I never felt, but he bleed pretty good, and the guy in car honking went to the hospital, my buddy let him have it big time Cops where there in min's and found some kind of code reader in their car, and arrested both of them, and thanked us while laughing at what we did to them. Next thing there's 7 more police cars surrounding us, and all laughing and joking about how they wish this had been taped, asking if there were any camara's pointed at the parking lot. They said be wouldn't be charged with anything but, kickin a$$,,,,, What a effin morning!!

That's why I don't like all this electronic shit. Nothing is safe. A mechanical lock takes longer to break into and harder to defeat than just pushing a button.
