exhaust smoke?

Evening,

maybe a stupid question, but I never really floored the car until I pulled out and merged into some 55mph traffic this afternoon. As I was accelerating, there was a relatively large cloud of smoke (?) as the car got over about 4500 rpm and still accelerating, I noticed it cause I looked back in the rear view to check the cars distance behind me. I never noticed it and I normally dont get too much over 3K RPM. I use nothing but BP 93 and it is due for its first oil change Monday. Is this normal?

yes, I have searched and you would not believed the lack of matches for this, lots of white=coolant, black=fuel, etc, but i didnt quite expect that much exhaust soot. Could be my paranoia....

I have observed the same smoke issue and took my car to the dealer several times. Dealer says it is normal for a direct injection car. If the smoke is black smoke I agree. Just burning rich. Others have said this is normal also. I think mine is excessive and wish there was a fixed for it. You want to be noticed for a nice car, not smoking the entire road. I have a link to my previous post below. Picture of the smoking at the bottom of the page. I have the same paranoia about my car. I bought my car back in 2015 with 50 miles on it. It had over 15 hours of idle time. Geez, what the heck? I don't know what kind of punishment they put it through before I got it. Manual says to never idle the car for long periods of time when breaking in the car.

Some black smoke is normal with DI as it does run on the rich side.

But you saw more smoke cause you are babying the car too much. You said you don't usually go over 3000 rpm? Don't break the car in like that...you can follow the basic guidelines still (no launches, no steady speeds for long distances, no cruise control), but you really should do in gear pulls up the rev range while in gear. That seats the rings better...a babied car during break in is a big no bueno.

When you floor the vehicle the ECU properly increases fuel injector pulse width to WOT (wide open throttle)parameters.
That means they are dumping as much fuel as they possibly can.
Full-rich condition.
This gives horsepower, but the large amounts of fuel also cools the pistons and cylinders.
Without all that rich fuel mixture, no engine would last long.
