Did a little Plasti Dip this weekend

I know how this forum typically feels about plasti dip, but here was my Sunday project. I went to my vinyl place and was quoted $150 per mirror to wrap in gloss black. I wanted to do a cheap fix to see if I liked it enough to wrap. An hour or two later here are the results. I'm digging it and will probably have them wrapped in the near future.

Looks very nice. Maybe you can add plasti dip glossifier and that'll make it look like it's wrapped

I would stick with the dip. I had mine wrapped before multiple times and I kept having problems because of the shape of the mirror. So I dipped mine and they came out great.

I plan on doing this but I have never plastidipped before. How easy is it to get an even distribution? How much does lower temperature affect the curing of this product? It says 18 Celsius and above on the can. Could I get away with doing it on a 10 C day?

Practice is key, if you are still not comfortable, have a professional plastidip installer do it for you, gloss black is in fact available in plastidip.

I did a set of mirrors a couple years ago and finally took it off because the bugs would impact themselves on the backside after a long trip and it wouldn't clean off well… And that was with glossifier too. Plastidip is great stuff, however it is soft for bug facing surfaces.

Its pretty easy on small stuff like mirrors. On bigger stuff like body panels, you would need an HVLP gun.

Temp isnt so much about the curing, but the spraying. On a hot day, the dip will spray out much more evenly for a smooth finish. On a cold day, it may come our of the can a bit thicker. A trick is to leave the can in a cup of hot water in between layers and it comes out super smooth.

Mirrors look fine, but not digging the fuel door. Not sure why anyone would want to make it more noticeable...

Exactly..I never understand why you want to make the fuel door stand out more than it already does, whether it's plastidip or those carbon accessory doors

I'm not in love with the fuel door, which is exactly why I chose this $10 alternative to see what I like before committing. Additionally, I did use a glossifier on all 3 spots.

It's very easy. As long as you apply a liberal amount of coats, it will peel off very easily. If you have overspray, it will come ove easily as well. Give it a shot, and do what Mark said and put it in warm water first. If it's too cold, you could get runny spots.
