That's not unusual. Go look at the times for all sorts of cars. On some turbocharged cars rolling start is a full second slower.

Correct. As you say, Car & Driver pioneered the 5-60 for just that reason. It makes a big difference on cars with no low end torque as they just roll out of the gate then stomp on the gas at 5 mph. No brake torqueing, no dumping the clutch etc.

DR=drag radial tire. aka "stickies". They are DOT street legal tires and not full blown race slicks that have the side wrinkle on launch.

Not sure why, but they always are. Maybe if they are pressing a start button, the .5 second plus is due to their reaction time of pressing the throttle. I think it actually has more to do with tire spin from a dead stop keeps the RPM up in the powerband, so as long as you don't blow the tires off, you accelerate faster, where during a low speed roll, the engine just bogs because there is no wheel spin until possibly toward the top of the run. But then again, the auto has such a low first gear, it looks like this wouldn't be the case, unless the car was already in 2nd gear, which would be highly likely since they would just be putting around to get to the 5mph mark.

I'm more surprised by the 3.2! I think these A10s will go 11.00 or faster in the right circumstances. I've not read the article yet, but the 125 trap speed makes me think they were in thin air. Cal has ran 125 with his manual on a slick track.
