There is a difference. Likely a coating but it's not something you'll see just looking at it.

That said, the regular windshield will reflect the HUD just fine. If you have a factory HUD definitely stick with the correct glass though. If OP adds one to his car he shouldn't NEED the HUD glass.

It'll require dash removal. With the large LCD display in the gauge cluster it really isn't worth all the effort.

With the C7 adding a factory HUD after the fact, the last one I saw being done was by removing the whole dash. I'd expect the same for the Camaro. AND you will need to cut up your dash to make space for the hud and bezel. Maybe add bracketry and need a new wiring harness and possibly a new dash where you have to add in the new HUD switches. IF there is a kit already made like the C6 then its no issue to install if you are mechanically inclined. That was plug and play and you take the chance of adding squeaks in the dash area.

thedoubleaa.com is where a lot of people were getting C6 and Gen5 Camaro HUD install kits.

If the Camaro windshield is close to the same cost as the C7 for HUD, then you are looking at a 1100 to 1300 cost.

Started a couple of YouTube videos. Heads up display module is $50 on eBay all day. Still have to finish up some videos. I did everything under 200 bucks

Don't most insurance companies automatically cover damaged windshields?

I think in NJ all do.

My local windshield place quoted me $700 and some change to replace it. You can get a little sticker that will mimic the different properties if you do wind up getting one working. That is what the cheap ones from Ebay do.

If you wind a way that you can use the OEM one easily Id be happy to sell you mine. Mine is turned off 100% of the time since I bought it.

About 600 I’ve replaced two already lol.
SafeLite ones are trash, they crack with a small rock.
OEM is so much better, my last one was done under warranty.

I agree. It would be easier and probably more cost effective to sell the car and get one with the HUD. Can you get a 1SS with HUD option from the factory?

On another note, in Wisconsin I use AAA insurance and get full coverage with the added windshield replacement on all cars.....BUT when I got the 2020 SS they would not give me the windshield protection because of the cost of the HUD windshield.

I did the install back on my 5th Gen 9/17/11 took approx 7 hours
https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172230

I all the cost was around $700 I purchased the kit from Gen5DIY check with them see if they have the 6th Gen kit.

You can use the factory stock windshield you will get a bit of a blurry image I never upgraded the windshield in mine and I drove the car for the next 5 years.

It was well worth it.

Solution to the windshield is just tint your windshield. before my OE project I used a OBD plug-in heads up display and it works just fine no double image

Auto manufacturers overall have been failing at this for a long time.

Your steering wheel, hands and arms obstruct the gauge cluster all the time...they just need to move the whole damn display to the right and integrate it with the touchscreen.

All I'm looking at is MPH anyway...
