Not arguing the LT4s improved ability to handle boost, just pointing out that a warranty means almost nothing to a lot of us as we will void it with mods, regardless if we buy an SS or a ZL1.
I understand. And I won't argue...

For my own situation, I'm not worried about the warranty so much as keeping the engine as close to the original configuration and power output as possible that the engine was designed for.

I drive hard, and take the car to the track frequently...knowing that the company has confidence that the engine (as designed) won't break down under that sort of pressure is worth it's weight in gold. It lets me focus on the road, the line, and the technique...rather than the engine letting go if I push to hard.

Of course the ZL1 guys are going to tell everyone how unreliable the LT1 motor is going to be with a supercharger.............but yet there are thousands of normal V8 engines with superchargers that have had no issues due to PROPER installation and tuning. I'll trust a reputable shop to install a quality supercharger and install a reliable tune to have YEARS of dependable driving. I think the guys that run into issues are the guy trying to squeeze every available last bit of power and then they complain when the motor quits.

This is one of those conversations that literally can be beaten to death for a hundred years.

I didn't say that....at most, I said "less" reliable...it's not an ego issue to me: purely engineering. We could be talking about a Challenger, Mustang, or "other" brand car. I don't care how much tuning is involved...An aftermarket blower put on a naturally-aspirated factory engine is not the same as an engine built for it from the beginning with a lower C/R, forced-induction cam grind, etc.

Will it work for lots of miles? Absolutely - I've seen many friends do this...They loved it. Magnuson, etc have been doing this stuff for years, and they know just how to make it work right, otherwise those guys wouldn't offer people warranties.

But none of my friends with aftermarket blowers abused their cars, either....frequent racing, etc...

I'm not gonna lie, if my pockets were deeper, I'd own a ZL1. Having said that, I'll be making roughly 200 more HP than a ZL1 and will still be in my car much less that a ZL1. I can also say that there aren't any other cars Exactly like mine and the contrarian in me, likes that!

I'm honestly not sure what I'd advise anymore. Maybe the question is not which car, but which guy are you? Unique guy or Out of the box guy? Expected super car speed or Unexpected super car speed? Same as the rest or something original(er)? Warranty guy or meddler guy that blows warranties up?

A lot goes into it.....

The SS is a very good as is and a solid platform for performance enhancements.

If you are looking for similar hp and tq numbers ( even a bit more) you can attain that goal for less than the cost of a ZL1. However car for car, component for component the ZL1 is generally the better all around platform and will support mods into a higher power range than an SS.

We work with all the Major Supercharger companies and their included warranties and or upgraded warranties are "limited" in their scope. They are sometimes more of a marketing tool.

Then easy to drop a lot of cash and build it the right way forged internals, upgrade fuel and oil system or go with LT4 crate (built for FI - forged internals etc) like the guy above (love your car BTW). By that point you're at the zl1 price point and the zl1 is better in every way with suspension, brakes, cooling, interior, warranty, value etc. Either way awesome cars but a cammed ZL1 would be my choice if I had the budget.
I just got rid of my 16 Z06. It's a bad ass car but there are problems in which you will find on the ZL1. It's a race car with street exhausts. It rides like a truck, noisy, and a bitch on a long trip because of heat, noise, noise from air fan on full blast and sat to 60 in order to be bareable. Higher insurance but fun to drive at first. Oh and the ground effects beats the paint to hell. You will need about 3K of paint film too. Oh, tires about 600 a piece. I came from a 14 C7 so thought I loved that car almost none of what I just explained above. So it's gone and I bought a 17 SS 50 anniversary convert I'm happy again, my bank gained 20K and 1/2vof it may go to maybe the Vengence Racing kit to bring to almost the 650hp but quieter and just better all around.

I think...only the ground effects comment will apply to the ZL1.

Nailed it! Making the car your own, standing amongst the other cars!

Who's saying you can't mod a ZL1 and make it perform to a higher standard?

There is a lot of good advice here. Some cars we drool over are not good daily drivers. If you can afford to own it as toy and have something else for everyday that's fine. But if you can't have an extra car, be careful.

I looked over at Vengence. They don't have anything for the Gen 6 Camaro listed yet, but all sorts of builds for NA Gen 5's.
