Matte black hood wrap on black V6

Hey guys, I want to wrap my hood with matte black vinyl, ala the 1LE.

I was going to go with 3M
https://www.amazon.com/3M-M12-MATTE-...m%2Bvinyl&th=1

Would a 5x5 ft piece work? Anyone do this already? Advice/tips?

ya Ive done it. https://www.instagram.com/p/BOIzTvOA...n-by=markoon13

You need a 5x6. 5x5 is too short on one side.

Advice would be to use a heat gun and not a hair dryer. Also get a friend or two to help.

I would recommend Avery over 3m. Its much easier to work with and get rid of bubbles for a first timer

The hood wrap on the 1LE is 3M 1080 Series matte black fyi, if you want it to be exactly like the 1LE hood.

Thanks for the tip. I had a chance to measure it, and I measured a touch larger than 5x4, so it looks like 6x5 would be correct

Are you positive on that? I've been looking at 1LE photos, and wondering if it was actually satin rather than matte.

I went to a local vinly store and looked at matte and Satin. If i do this im gunna go satin because the matte marred very easily! Like a light fingernail brush left a mark. Satin seemed very durable. I was looking at Avery stuff I think.

Bumping this, I pulled the trigger on 3M 1080 satin black. I will wrap on Saturday, weather permitting.

Had mine painted instead. Took the wrap off. Wax on wax off Grasshopper. Two coats of matte black sanded then two coats of clear coat. cost $500.00 everything. don't worry about bird shit or grease prints or wax << WAY easier to take care of

According to the chevrolet website the wrap on the 1LE is in fact Satin Black.

Really? I find that a wrap is easier. You don't need to dry it or wax it. Plus if it get's scratched you can replace the body panel for like $50

I would warn you to be careful with a heat gun. They put out a lot of heat and can melt your wrap. A hair dryer on the other hand is more manageable for a first timer. Just my .02
