The transmissions are not the same.

"One of the 2018 Mustang’s signature features is its new 10-speed automatic transmission, but a six-speed stick is standard. It’s not a carryover, though, it has a new twin disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel to make it stronger and improve clutch pedal feel. There’s also new gearing with a shorter first gear and two overdrives for improved acceleration and fuel economy. Fourth gear is now direct drive, so if you ignore the 5/6 gate, you can pretty much pretend it’s a classic Toploader."
Odd they would make first steeper, and add another overdrive, without changing any other ratios...that may make for some odd ratio spans...I just hope this doesn't make the MT-82 even more fragile in the lower gears. As numerically higher gears are smaller in size.

And what are you gonna do now?!

The 2 overdrives now points to a significant bump in torque.

I'm confused....4th did not used to be 1:1, and 5 & 6 weren't overdrives before? I mean no offense, but coming from Fox news (not an automotive source)...they like to take highlights from a manufacturer press release or slide show without understanding what they're reading...

My current 5th gear is 1:1 and 6th is the only overdrive. So yes, 4th was not 1:1, and the current S550 has only 1 overdrive.

Take the source for what it is...I have no idea the accuracy of the content. It doesn't however seem far fetched...quite frankly, it seems far fetched that it's fabricated.

Saw that picture and immediately thought 2008ish Jag XK.

I didn't like the 2015 looks, and to me this kinda makes it worse. It almost looks like the car is upset with the refresh it received lol

I'm actually shocked to learn this...

It doesn't fit my Agenda, it makes reasonable sense. The current coyote needs those extra gears to make up for it's torque disadvantage. Extra shifts however will slow you down significantly during multiple laps of a road course.

Yeah its a possibility of there being a good bump. Ford did say the only thing that carried over in the coyote motor was the crankshaft.

You said significant, what are you thinking is significant enough to warrant a change in transmission ratios? I think that points more towards a need to increase fuel economy instead of just adding the second overdrive because there is more torque.

But I am not an engineer so who knows.

30lbft+ would be by guess.

OMG that's hideous looking.

Chevy needs to FINALLY competitively price the Camaro and they'd close the sales gap in a hurry.
