Sunroof or not - Fifty

Hi

New to the forum and in the process of maybe becoming a Camaro 6 Fifty V8 owner.

So here is my question
My idea is to get an enthusiast car and keep if for "many" years
I am wondering about to get or not get the sunroof?

With kids in the car (at the momen 3+6 years of age)
It might be a very appreciated thing to get some light into the dark coupe?
(Me and the wife are not very tall 173 + 175cm)

Then again sunroofs sometimes tend to give some issues with leakuge over the years?

What is your opinion, should I go or not go for the sunroof option?

I guess my coverage will be between 2500km to 5000km / year only
So as mentioned enhusiast car "only"

/Thx mduck

Go for it. You get more light in the cabin and you can get more fresh air. With the too low roof the car feels claustrophobic without it.

It does not add much weight so it does not compromise performance, most likely will never leak, and only compromises head room if you wear a helmet or an old fashioned Sunday driving hat.

It definitely adds to my enjoyment of the car.

I've had sunroofs in all my vehicles and I've never had a problem with it leaking! I say go for it! I just purchased my 50th Saturday with the sunroof!

Add it for the above reasons. If you wanna save cash, skip nav and just use carplay maps.

I've had sunroofs in some of my new vehicles. I love em. But more so I didn't do it this time around because I would loose that reverse Mohawk look. plus I don't drive it everyday to enjoy it. To me, it was a worthless investment. If I lived in a more warmer climate such as Florida, I'd may think differently.

Sunroof actually increases headroom due to the groove down the middle of the roof being removed. Most days I pull back the liner but leave the roof closed.

Sunroof was an absolute must have for me (m6 as well). Way too many pluses having it vs not. In fact this is why I'm not in a new Mustang 5.0 tbh. Go for it op

It's really just a preference. I think it's very unlikely you'll have a leak so I wouldn't let that influence the decision.

The only issue I've had with mine is the cover sometimes slides back a little under hard acceleration, but my engine makes over 700 horsepower so that may have something to do with it.

I almost never use my sunroof, so when I ordered the ZL1, I decided to go with a center stripe instead.

I agree that the leak issue is probably not significant. If you keep it long enough I would be more worried about the mechanism sticking and the seals getting old. The sticking is more problematic if the mechanism has anti-pinch, which I presume it does.
I prefer the look of this car without the sunroof. I skipped it on my 50th. I've had a sunroof in my last 3 cars and found myself using it more to ventilate the cabin when parked in the sunshine than anything else. In this car I thought it was a pricey option and added 40 lbs at the very top of the car I did not need.

I didn't even think about the added weight. Is there really 40 lbs of difference?

No. It doesn't.
I have a sunroof and it definitely impacts the headroom. In order to fit inside with a helmet, I have to adjust the seat back a little. In one without a sunroof, there's no issue. The difference is probably 1-2"
