Paint issues on my 2016 SS
My SS was traded from a dealer in North Carolina and it got to my dealer after hours on a Friday night, The car was brought to me at work on sat morning. I noticed buffing compound in the deck lid area, drivers side door, around the vent on the left side of the hood, but I never found any paint defects. But now since the weather has gotten cold and I have had the car for 2 months there are spots all over the left side of my roof, left 1/4 panel, drivers door, left side of hood and drivers door. It looks like the clear coat is blistering off of the base coat. I went to the dealer on Friday and was told it had something dripped on it. I asked them why a new car was buffed and the body shop manger told me that I must have buffed my car and no dealer would buff a new car! I now have to go back today and see the service manager to see if they will even put it in for paint warranty! They want to write me an estimate for me to give my insurance company so they can paint my car! I refuse to have a complete repainted done on my new car! Does anybody know how to get GM involved and get something done?

Buy a paint mil gauge and determine if it has, in fact, been painted.

Are they like mine?
http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473788 I had a bunch of little white spots that was in the clear coat on my quarter panels, I had it warrantied at 397 Miles and they ended up repainting the quarter panels all the way to the A-Pillars, found some on the roof so repainted the roof and trunk lid including spoiler. |

Pics? My guess without seeing the car is that it was like this from new. It was probably buffed out a bit by the dealer during prep for sale. I really doubt that is particularly unusual for a dealer to either compound or polish a car a bit prior to delivery. You probably didnt notice the defects because the dealers tend to use waxes with a lot of filler that can tend to conceal swirl marks and other paint defects. Those types of waxes usually wear away in 1-2 months, which matches your time frame.
I took delivery of my car unprepped by the dealer with the plan that I'd prep it myself since I have a lot of detailing tools and figured I'd do a better job. In so doing, I discovered that my hood was covered with either dust or chemical defects in the clear or between the clear and base coat. The dealer ultimately agreed to swap my hood with another car on the lot. I drove up, the 2nd car had similar issues and wasnt significantly better than mine (which was shocking to me). Then they pulled a 3rd car off the showroom floor. I took that hood but have since noticed a few defects, mostly small, except for one not so great one. Overall, it is much better but still substandard in my view. Haven't decided what I am going to do about it yet. Probably nothing. Bottom line, in my view, the paint quality and attention to detail in the finishing is very poor on these vehicles in the sample of 3 that I have carefully inspected. Maybe that is just my crazy luck? Who knows. I doubt it. I find it completely baffling that this is an issue in 2017. |

I went to the dealer and met with the body shop manager he first said I park under a tree, when he found out weave no trees near our house he then said the car had been repainted and buffed and my warranty would not cover it! I left the dealer and went to a high end paint shop and they checked every panel on my car and nothing has been painted! I filed a complaint with GM. The dealer called me after The GM rep called them and said it was not a warranty issue and they would not promise me anything and they did not know where to go with this or what to do! I have to have my hood, both fenders, drivers door, roof, drivers 1/4 panel and deck lid repainted.. I guess I will do a total paint job on a new solid black SS!

As I mentioned I had paint issues on my brand new solid black 2017 2SS...
As a matter of fact, I found these paint defects the very same day I bought the car... I was even at the dealership and had my sales lady document it, To which I have a copy of the work order I can send to you if it'll help your case. These little white spots inside the clear coat were all over the top of the quarter panels and when I took it in to the dealership to have it fixed they found more on the roof, trunk lid and spoiler (again, i still have the paper work from the dealership if it'll help your case [ignore the smudges, that was from me and my sales lady trying to see if it'll wipe off]). And for polishing compound, My car actually had 3 circular burn marks from a circular polisher just above the white spots between the quarter glass and rear window I work for a car manufacturing plant, We will actually cut and buff the cars with compound if there are minor paint defects that can be repaired... I think for our cars, there was defects that were obvious that they tried to fix... and saw the rest then said f*ck it, good enough. I work specifically in final confirmation, A car does not get out of the factory without someone from my team looking through the car for stuff like this. I've kicked cars back to paint hospital for less... QC at GM particularly in paint defects is well known to be either drunk, sleeping on the job or pressed so hard to get the cars out they let too much pass. I was given a 1LT loaner for the 2 weeks and 2 days that my 2SS spent getting repainted... |

The dealer said they could do nothing for me and said I should file an insurance claim. I am really considering trading my car for a 2017 ZL1. I told the dealer I would never step foot in any of their dealerships and they said sorry you feel that way. The spots on my car look just like the spots on your car but many more of them.

Have you escalated with the owner & general mgr of the dealership? Have you showed them the paperwork from the body shop that measured the paint and concluded that it was factory original? |
