Apparently no color or year is safe from paint defects

Just took delivery of my 2017 2SS in regular black about 6 hours ago.

Love the car but during my walk around, I found paint problems on her hips...

There's about half a dozen spots that looks like clear coat is peeling a little on each quarter panel, 3 circular smudges that are in the clear coat and a pretty big spot of contaminant in the paint right behind the tail light on the right quarter panel... I took these pictures at night because it gets dark around 5PM now.

I pointed them out to my sales lady and she gave me an invoice type thing that states it needs warranty work on the quarter panels, So at least for me it's being taken care of...

I had read that this was a common problem on 2016's but it seems like they haven't fixed it on the 2017's.

The car

See the circular smudge, there are 2 more just like it just an inch apart.

See all those dots, We thought they were just water marks which is why we smudged it... tried to get it to rub out but it didn't.

If you took delivery 6 hours ago I'd try to get another car all together. Have them find you another. I'm fighting with GM on a car that has poor paint coverage and they don't want to own up to it. The longer you wait the less they will do.

I'll echo that. I'd try and back out if I were you. Plenty of these cars available. Not worth the headache.

I work in a car factory at final quality inspection... stuff like this happens many times a day, it's why we have a section of the factory for paint repairs that at any given time has a least 10 cars in it.

They don't do anything different than a regular body shop so there's a very very high likelihood that most cars have these issues but to certain extents or had them in the factory and got resprayed. I'm happy with the car and as long as they take care of it'll be fine, they called and set up an appointment on the 28th so I can get a loaner.

Then their QC sucks at GM since I saw worse than that, on a newly delivered 2017 Jet Black myself. I'm starting to the think the quality on these things is worse than FCA...

I'm thinking it's an american car thing... Spend some time in a Ford showroom and you'll see it's just as bad if not worse.

Before the Camaro I was buying a 2016 Mustang and would have actually got it if they weren't trying to rip me off every chance they got... But with my training, I was walking around pointing out HUGE panel misalignment, over adhesive, paint defects, dents coming out from panels (like someone hit the inside of a door behind the door panel) etc... And these were top trim show room cars. Out of the 2 Fusions (Titanium and sport), Focus ST, Explorer Sport, 1 Mustang GT convertible, Flex limited and Escape titanium... The only car that I couldn't really find anything wrong on was the Focus ST and it was wrapped in the dealers logo's.

The Camaro's are still running and all the parts that is supposed to be there, Is there so it's not as bad as FCA... But we certainly have some overly lenient QC inspectors.

I'm thinking the supervisors are cracking whips and pushing to gate cars instead of pushing for quality.

The paint on my 16 was bad, Chevy repainted it and it was better but not good enough. With all the other warranty issues and the car being in for repairs for 45 days I gave up. Customer service is useless. I ended up dis-assembling the entire body and had the car correctly repainted and cleared with good quality PPG products. Looks great, currently doing the final color sand and buff.
As far as all the other issues I just fixed it all myself, Dealer techs are jokes these days, cost me a couple of hundred in misc parts but the car is finally fixed correctly.
This is the last new Chevy I purchase. I just traded my Silverado and selling my C6 GS, I will most likely sell the 6th Gen within a year as well. Done with Chevy.
Quality and customer service is a thing of the past with them.

I can show you pictures of all the places, and elements my Jeep has been wheeled in. 2 years later the paint is in better condition than newly delivered Camaro's kind of hard to not let that go...

Mine ended up being repainted (quarter panels, trunk lid, roof, spoiler), Only issue I have seen was the corner by the glass there's a dust spec but you have to be looking for it to see it.

Otherwise the repainted areas are perfect... The door rattles were fixed as well (that popped up later).

I'm about to hit 2500 miles now though, So it's still pretty new... Had a few dealer/body shop mistakes that are being sorted, Someone (or maybe factory?) punctured the side of the passenger seat just below the center console and someone in the body shop got desperate when trying to get to the antenna and destroyed the driver side rear interior panel... Cracked the top about 6" and has several scratches on the edges from trying to pry it out.

The body shop didn't say anything until I found it... a month later.

Just dropped mine off at the dealer to get spots taken care of. I have the Circle behind the passenger side window, and another circle on the trunk lid. When I talked to the manager, he said virtually every camaro he had seen come onto the lot in the last year had something wrong with the paint

The paint jobs, although weren't perfect, were waaay better when they were coming out of Oshawa. I'm going to have mine paint corrected this summer.
