My dealer ordered my A10 and showed me a letter from GM regarding their allocation (which was two coupes and one convertible) but my order didn't get picked up on the last ordering cycle (although I had my order number a week prior to the cycle). My dealer further states that my order may, or may not get picked up Feb 9th. He hopes it will, but can't say for certain. My dealer has two allocations, I'm number two. The dealer says no one knows whether their two ordered allocations will be picked up Feb 9th. None may be picked up, one may be picked up, both may be picked up. Depends on how many A10's they commit to build prior to Feb. 9th and other orders from all over the country. All this information comes directly from the guy who does the ordering for my dealership.

Is he accurate? I really have no idea. Other's are apparently getting contradictory info from their dealers too.

GM will be opening up more allocatons for the next cycle and the next cycle in march. It's quite obvious to me that GM has only committed to making a set amount of ZL1s for the 2017 model year which officially ends in april and the 2018s will start to roll out in may. I'm sure this has a lot to do with the constraints on the build number and the fact their is the allocation process in effect for the end of this 2017 model year....

Thanks for the response. I get that.
But the fact I have a actual order number, does that count for anything?

Does this mean my dealer has an allocation for me?

I will answer both of your questions..

A Dealer can "Create' an order at anytime.
when the order is created it is -
1100 Status

Available Allocation is needed to "Place" the order.
It then is in the "System" and moving forward.
2000 Status and above...

Dealers that are receiving allocation -
were communicated their number
IE: # Coupes - # Convertible

Those will become available - some time - in the
Dedicated Order Cycles for ZL1's

.................................................. ...........................
The order must be "buildable" - without constraints.
IE: A dealer may have allocation - but not the availability of A10

Hope that helps

Becky,

If my dealer has allocation available for the A10 does he manually have to resubmit the order OR will it get picked up automatically by the SYSTEM since its already been created with the 1100 status?

Thanks, much!

They "submit" the order to the allocation...
.....normal step in the process.

Just a slight correction here. An order can be created with constraints.

Once it needs to be placed against an allocation they must then eliminate the constrained items.

Ex. I put my order in and was at 1100 with CF dash insert on constraint.
My dealer called me when he was ready to "place" that order and asked if I wanted to wait longer or remove the CF dash and let the order go to 2000.
I removed it, and he placed it...

This also happened to me back in 2009 when CGM color was constrained and that was a bigger deal than a dash panel, so I told my dealer to pass the allocation to the next person in line and I would wait. Based on the good info from Camaro5 we knew CGM was close to coming off of constraint and the next month I went to 2000.

We seen limited allocations on the A10 this last cycle, but no mention of the M6. This does not mean all M6 orders where filled but I am curious how many did. The A10 will widen up ad the trans plant ramps up. My guess is the only constraint in the future will probably be the LT4's. We shall see.

Just having a allocation means nothing. They must have a a10 allocation. I was dealing with 5 dealerships and 3 of them got allocations but only 1 got a allocation for a a10. One dealership was honest and said more then Likely there allocation will not be for a a10 feb 8. You need to find a dealership with a a10 allocation. There are some out there. Try the southern states the 40 miles around me and 5 chevys they got a total of 13 allocations.

That just means that the dealer put your order into their system. It doesn't mean that they have an allocation. Without an allocation, GM will not pickup the order and begin building the car.

That's the problem I have been seeing. Getting a dealership to tell you whether or not they have an allocation. I'm really not sure why it's so difficult or convoluted. I have never experienced this before with my other vehicles.

It's really not convoluted. Just a lot of mis-information gets thrown around to customers who don't really know the details. Mostly by sales people who have very little to do with the actual ordering system or just don't have the experience yet to know.

If you all think this is bad put yourselves in their shoes where you are trying to earn a living, have people beating down your door to buy something, but can't sell it to them yet. Their primary focus is on the cars in the lot.

It's this way with all new hot items. We go through this every new model. Lots will be full of them in due time. At least now you can go in and ask the right questions and know if you're getting a straight answer.

I would've thought if the dealer had an allocation, one could choose any available options, manual, auto, etc., but that's not the case. I got lucky when I found a dealer with an allocation. The salesman I talked to told me he knew they had one, but thought there were some stipulations, and he wanted to check on it before he told me wrong. He called me back and said the stipulations were it had to be a coupe and had to be an automatic. I was like, great! That's exactly what I'm looking for!

I guess when you think about it, they can only build so many of each based on parts supplies and sales forecasts, so it kind of makes sense.
