Allocation question

I wanted to see if there is truth to what a salesman told me. I asked if they had an allocation for a Zl1 and I was told if I buy one that gets priority and the allocation won't matter. Is this true or does the dealer have to be allocated one to order one?

If they don't have an allocation you can't place an order. They can put you on a list as the allocations come in.

Its my understanding that a dealership can place an order but it will just sit in queue until the dealership has an allocation to place the order against. When I bought last March I contacted ten dealerships in my area and only one answered my question straight up about allocation. The rest waffled and would not say if they did or didn't have an allocation. Instead they stated things like "we can order right away" which told me they didn't have an allocation to use at that time.

Thanks for the replies. That's what I was thinking based on other threads, but I thought I should ask.

Is there anyway for me to verify if a dealer has an allocation, so I know if I am being misled?

If you place an order get the order number, then give it to BeckyD@RodgersChevrolet and she can track it. If they won't, or don't give you an order number that is a red flag they do not have allocation.

More then likely if you dealing with a salesman ( a normall one ) your not getting this car. You need to talk to the guy that orders the cars and trucks . They have no clue what a allocation is. Lol

Here is my advice since I was dealing with the same issue:

Go to the dealership and speak to an experienced sales advisor. Have that person go and confirm with either the GM or the Employee that actually does the ordering for the dealership's vehicles that they have an allocation. If they have one, give them your order and have them print out the OrderWorkbench form showing you as the customer along with your build options. This form will also contain your order number.

Now, this will be harder if you find a dealership that is not in your area but it's not impossible. You just have to find a seasoned sales advisor that is motivated and wiling to help you. If you speak to a sales rep that hasn't been there long, is only interested in moving vehicles on the lot or is flat out incompetent, you will get nowhere. The important thing is to get the OrderWorkbench form.

Once you have that, you're not out the woods just yet. If the dealer has an allocation, then it will get picked up by GM during the next dedicated order cycle that Becky posted:

http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=478460

The next cycle is Feb 9.

Be sure to maintain a relationship with the person that orders cars/trucks. I think they're called Fleet or Truck Managers. If you can, go speak to them in person. If you can't, then shoot Becky a message on the tracking thread. But before you go and submit orders all over town, be certain the dealership has an allocation and that requires getting in touch with the right people. The most important thing is the allocation. Without one, a dealership will not get the car, no matter what they try and tell you.

A side piece of advice: They will ask you for a deposit. This is most times mandatory but I have pushed back and said while I don't mind placing a deposit, I will only do so once you show me that you have an allocation and the order has been picked up by GM. Otherwise, the way I see it, it's pointless to leave a deposit on an order that is going to stay in 1100 status (order placed at dealership).

Hope this helps and good luck!

DDP98,

I have an order number from my dealer for my ZL1. I have checked with Chevy Chat as well as Becky and they both are able to find my order thru their system and both are able to confirm my current order status at 1100. Which is a good thing, I hope. Does this mean my dealer has an allocation for me?

I've sure seen a ton of contradictory information on how the allocation system works. This is what my dealer tells me:

My dealer said that any dealer can order an A10 and give you an order number (whether they have an allocation or not). My dealer ordered my A10 and showed me a letter from GM regarding their allocation (which was two coupes and one convertible) but my order didn't get picked up on the last ordering cycle (although I had my order number a week prior to the cycle). My dealer further states that my order may, or may not get picked up Feb 9th. He hopes it will, but can't say for certain. My dealer has two allocations, I'm number two. The dealer says no one knows whether their two ordered allocations will be picked up Feb 9th. None may be picked up, one may be picked up, both may be picked up. Depends on how many A10's they commit to build prior to Feb. 9th and other orders from all over the country. All this information comes directly from the guy who does the ordering for my dealership.

Is he accurate? I really have no idea. Other's are apparently getting contradictory info from their dealers too.

I'm taking the advice of one of the moderators, and just doing my best to enjoy the process and anticipation! My wife (however) is a bit more impatient! I sold her car a month ago in preparation for the new Camaro!

1100 status only means your dealer submitted a good order with no constraints. Any dealer can get you there. They must have an allocation to get you to 2000 and beyond. If your order goes to 2000, you know there was an allocation available for your order. Good luck.
