Financial suicide aside, I test drove a '15 SS and then a '17 SS. Never thought about the '15 again. The '17 was a beast.

looked at the 16s,but i liked the 5th gens better.slightly more comfortable interior, and im an older guy who doesnt race as much as i use to.found a certified used 2015 RS and took it home for 23k with 8,000 miles on it and remainder of factory warrantee.2012s-13s were only 2-3 k cheaper with no warrantee so for me this was a no brainer.i drove a 2016 loaner for about 4 days, best way to compare is the 2016 is more vette-like while the 5th gen is old school muscle.i should add the 2016 i drove was a base car while mine has every option but the v-8.having driven the old school v-8 hotrods i wanted better mileage this time.

Nope not a chance I'd got BACK to my 2013 1LE! My Gen6 is twice the car was my Gen5.

Just visual queues.. I won't mention performance
![]() But hey, if the 5th Gen fits your budget, go for it it's a great car. Btw, no car looks meaner on the road than the Camaro front the front. The back view is all muscle especially with the wide hips.

I actually think the 6th Gen looks meaner. I owned at 14 1LE that had full bolt-ons and a cam. My 6th Gen was faster right out of the box due to the DI torque curve and lower weight. Don't get me wrong, I loved my 14 but the 16 is LIGHT YEARS ahead. I think you'd really regret not getting the 2016 or newer.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I was just the opposite. 5th generation didn't do anything for me. Looked bulky & really didn't even turn my head. 6th generation with the Alpha platform made all the difference in looks & the Alpha platform is really what made this my first choice.
But I certainly respect the differences in opinion! Get what you like and most importantly can afford. |

Liking both cars is a good position to be in. They're both solid choices. Of course the 6th Gen is equipped with the latest tech, and of course it is built on a superior platform for a better driving experience. However, the 5th Gen does offer that more classic muscle car look, while the 6th Gen as positioned and presented itself to more of a sports car. But you can't go wrong choosing either.
Financial suicide? Well, people spend their money on what they like, after all, that's why we get up an go to work everyday. So, on a car forum, you are likely to see a lot of us that put of our income towards the car than the "experts" recommend. Oh well, there's worse things out there I guess. Try this however, build and price a Camaro you want. Then figure out the payment. Then for the next 12 months, put that money into savings each month and try not to dip into it. Set up a separate account if need be. After a year, you will have nice down payment, a better sense of what you can afford, more knowledge about the car and what you want, and a much better chance of finding a gently used one matching your preferences. Of course, you can also put that money towards a house... |

A car isn't worth getting in financial trouble over. I could afford a new one now but I'm saving up a down payment because I don't want a huge monthly payment.

I wish I could have both. I loved both of my 5th gens, but the 6th gen has the performance potential totally lacking in the bone stock 5th gens. However, anyone who went to the Holley LS Fest this year knows the 5th gens can be made to run. Buy a super nice used low mileage 5th gen and add 10k in performance parts and you'll never look back.
