That is all well and fine when your phone has a constant 3 or 4 G connection, where I live it is not available consistently and any browsing on my phone is impossible.

Xm isn't available in Hawaii so after the trial it's all gone. My waze app is the best I have used for traffic and directions. But I live on an island so directions are not needed.

From what I've read about GM's WiFi is that the car's external antenna is the only advantage over using your phone as a hotspot. $10/month for one GB sounds outrageous. Maybe an external antenna would be the solution.

They also have an option to link it to your AT&T account.

What is not clear on the website is whether:
1) they are simply using AT&T to bill you for your 1GB/$10 deal,
or 2) you can use your AT&T data sharing plan plus 1GB.

I have a mobile sharing plan on AT&T with rollover. It would definitely be worth $10/month to be able to use that with a bonus Gig.

The AT&T website seems to indicate #2, but they don't yet list the Camaro, and how to sign up is not clear.

I may actually have to call customer service.

It's number 2. But I have a better suggestion. Get an actual WiFi hotspot from your carrier. My AT&T one has just as good reception as the car, costs the same a month, and best of all...you don't have to be in the car to use it. Unless you have a minivan with multiple kids and go on lost of trips with them....a car hotspot is a waste of money for what you get.

Oh, I have a WiFi hotspot on my HTC One, but I like the idea of hassle-free. With the HS on the phone, I have to manually turn it on/off. On the car, I can just hop in and all my devices connect.

I'm also assuming the OnStar antenna will be better than the phone.

I'm still exploring and will use my free GB and OnStar to figure out the best configuration for me. Gotta play with Android Auto some more as well.

Right now, having problems with the bluetooth/vehicle connection. Randomly switches on/off, haven't nailed down why. Rather annoying.

I renewed via the onstar loyalty dept, full package including directions not the 4g though including taxes was $114.44 for 6 months, want a year just double the price.

I'm talking about a physical hotspot device, not just a phone feature. They have much better antennas and are dedicated routers. You can just turn them on and go. I leave mine on standby for days at a time since I use it as as backup internet access for working at home.
