I had a friend with 70 Chevelle SS 396, that car felt like you were going fast at 90 mph because it was all over the place. This new car has a settled chassis, tight steering and is much more isolated from road variations and road noise.

Google "Ayrton Senna's Monaco lap" and watch what some people consider to be the all-time best lap at that track. He struggles to keep that car in control while he is at 10/10ths virtually the entire lap.
Then Google the same track but with Hamilton Lewis (or somebody else if you have a favorite). His hands are much calmer while driving faster than Senna. The difference is 20 years of chassis tuning and tire improvements. The question is, which do you prefer, a hectic challenging driving experience or a more placid, but faster ride? |

I think my V6 6 speed is every bit as fast as the 96 z28 6speed I used to have and would wipe the floor with my old 89 Iroc 5.7

This car blows me away every day. I came from a mazda 3(170hp/130ftlb) and have never driven or owned anything with a higher power to weight ratio. My parents have had v6 sedans and suv's but due to the extra weight there was never a solid feeling of acceleration unless the pedal was mashed to the floor from a stop.
I had to pass a car the other day and was amazed how i was able to accelerate from 60+ and still feel a solid push with little effort. When i tried the same in my mazda the engine would struggle so hard and it would take forever. |

When I first got my 6th Gen A8 V6 RS, to me it didn't feel like a car GM says will do 0-60 in 5.1 seconds but having owned it a month and 1,200 miles later, I can honestly say this car is getting faster. I came from a semi modded and tuned v6 07 Charger with a very responsive throttle which most times feels faster. Now that I'm getting used to the Camaro, it definitely is faster than my Charger. I think our perception plays a lot into how we think a car drives.

From an SS owner
After driving for a while If you daily drive like me then you get so used to it that it no longer feels fast.

It's probably the same no matter the power level, you get used go it. Maybe a little slower the higher you go, but eventually the sensation tapers off. Human nature.

I traded in a 2012 Mustang GT for my current, 2016 SS. Both cars are auto.
The thing is my Coyote "felt" faster on my butt dyno, mainly launching it snapped more violent. My SS is faster but also a lot smoother too and you don't feel the bumps as much but the speed gets up there faster. My GT wasn't nearly as a smooth ride. I think that's why the GT felt faster. |
