Thanks! They aren't perfect, but they're close enough to stay suspended while I postion the jack and I've used them a few times now with zero damage/issues. They also only cost a few dollars a piece for 4

The bottoms are also notched to sit nicely on the jack-stand tops. The car is very stable on them (I always give the vehicle a little shove just to make sure before getting under)

Millennial here.

I haven't been to a shop for work outside of an alignment, new tires, or a full trans/engine rebuild in 10 years. I have a 60 gallon air compressor, and all the tools I need No lift yet though). I do all my own work, on all 7 of our cars. The 2016 SS is my 30th vehicle.

I also build guns, computers, repair general electronics, appliances, and I'm a career IT guy. I also LS swapped my high school car, a 1989 Firebird Formula 350. My first job was auto upholstery.

Some of us still like tinkering haha

I'm 46 and do almost all of my own maintenance...but it depends on the car. My BMW and Jeep I let them (dealer) handle maintenance and warranty items. My camaros and my 3000gt I do all the maintenance myself and most mods I do myself and only take the camaros to the dealer when it is beyond my ability(or a warranty repair). I love working on cars as a hobby. I enjoy it so much I rented a warehouse and put a lift in :-). Comes in real handy when we have a mod day.

Hi, I always do my periodical maintenance on my cars including brakes, fluids and filter changes. Take it to the shop for jobs like timing belt (on my hondas). My Camaro is a month old with 500 miles. need to buy the Pinchweld adaptors for jacks before its due for any job under the car.

I bring my car in for oil change. I just don't like crawling under the car. If I have lift, I'll do it myself. (I'm 43 by the way)

I do brake jobs myself, because a) Working position is lot better (I can sit while doing it, not crawl), and b) I had some bad experience with brake flush at local shops.

What are you guys using for the used oil catch pan? 10 quarts is a lot to hold & I don't want to have a mess to clean up. I've looked around amazon at some, just not sure what would be a good one yet.

I'm using this. Works great so far. Plenty of capacity and sealed well.

I got my oil drain pan at Advance Auto and it holds 10 quarts. I had to buy a larger one when I started changing the oil in my 2010 LS3 SS which held 8 quarts. Auto Zone and don't forget about Walmart have oil drain pans for sale that aren't that expensive!

28, I used to do my own oil changes on my old truck (X-Runner) because I'm knit picky about what oil and filter I use.

Until I learned most shops will use the stuff you bring in but charge you labor... It's only $15-$20. I get to stay clean, My garage gets to stay clean, I don't have to drag out my floor jack, jack stands and the oil recycling is done then and there so I don't have to stop at Vatozone to recycle it.

I do however stand in front of the car the entire time watching them work to make sure they don't strip the drain plug or mess anything up. It's such a simple job with a lift that they've yet to mess up all these years.

And I keep a binder of every receipt I get on the car... I print out the receipt for the oil and filter and put it in a paper protector with the invoice for the labor.

So, I have my reasons... It's not like I remember my now 66 year old dad doing his own oil changes on his cars when I was growing up. He would do repairs like hoses, belts, spark plugs etc... But for oil changes, it was always the drive in style jiffy lubes. And he was a mechanic for many years, even owning a shop before he had kids...

I buy all my Chevrolet, Cadillac & Rams from a dealer who is 3 hours from me. I could have free changes and would have no problem letting somebody else get dirty if I didn't have to contend with traffic to do so. Therefore I do all my own maintenance, as I have since I was 14 (on ATC's).

I have something in common with Therza having swapped my 2007 Jeep Rubicon motor for a HEMI. I am actually an executive by day, running a company of 130 employees but I weld, wrench and do all things labor since I got my first MATCO wrench off the truck at Dollar Point Shell in Tahoe City in 1984.

I am foregoing my two free oil changes and plan to change the oil myself for as long as I am able. I will save all receipts for the oil and filters and document the oil changes in a table similar to the one in the owner's manual (page 341), as well as on the my.chevrolet.com web site.

Regarding disposal of the old oil, where I live, I can pour the used oil into the empty oil containers, put the drained oil filter in a ziplock bag, and place everything at the curb next to the recycle bin to be picked up on garbage day.
