EDIT: Just read about these ROPS. They're spring loaded and shoot out in case of roll over. I wonder why they still won't allow them up here?

The Porsche "bar" is a 4 point roll attachment and it is good on every track I have ever been on. Yes, BMW events ban all soft top cars for some reason (their own designs suck maybe?)

Thanks guys! Why did i not go with the Cayman? simple: depreciation.... The Spyder will probably never go down in value...They made 800 of them, that's it. The "new" ones have numb electric steering and a de-tuned 911 motor that is suffering camshaft failures on track. I have a feeling the 987.2 Spyder will be the most desired mid-engine car (under 500k LOL) they made in a few short years. They got everything right with this one.....

Everyone I know who either has one or has driven one from the Rennlist forums, absolutely loves their 981..........it apparently has 'fixed' everything that wasn't great about the 987.2. I definitely wasn't crazy about a 997.2s engine going in that car (and the Cayman GT4), but somehow Porsche has made it work. The track issues with camshaft failures is not something I've heard about, but defer to you on that given your wealth of knowledge on track related issues with all of these cars, but I'm willing to bet most 981 Spyder owners aren't tracking their cars. The main downside I've read with the 981 is the tall gear ratios....... not crazy about that for day to day driving, and from that standpoint, I think your 987.2 will be more fun. I drove a friend's 987.2 Spyder with PDK about 3 years ago, and honestly it was the most balanced and close to 'perfect' driving Porsche I've been in, and I've owned a Cayman S and 997.2 GTS cab. |

Hi Bruin,
It seems the cam gear bolts are backing out and causing the failures, but your right about not many tracking their cars....I have now seen 4 of the same failures and one was a car never on the track. Starting to remind me of the IMS issues. Porsche seems to be stepping up and fixing all of them (even track failures) but they are only doing the top end of the engines, which is scary since when the bots back out they rub the case before they fail...where does all that metal go?? In your bearings! I suggested to the forums and I will suggest it here to: If you track your car and it's under warranty, keep a blackstone labs tube in your glovebox, so if you have failure, you can have a great idea of what the real damage is before the MFG knows. |

Beautiful new car. Looks like you avoided the Porsche depreciation hit, but it's not old enough to be a service nightmare. Good luck with it, she's a beaut!

Thanks Mike! It will be here next week (on transporter now), so it definitely beat my 1LE order by a wide margin. When I was 30, I could have cared less about depreciation.......now at 50, I do..damn oldtimers disease.

It's a Cayman R without a roof and has 4 point roll bar instead?? The vette's have ZERO and are not allowed on any track anywhere? You are comparing apples to oranges....I also live in an area where it is seldom under 70 degrees and god knows it never rains here....and just because you want to be the smart one...I'll just leave this "convertible" here, hopefully someone informed them that they are not "track" cars...SMH
