I didn't see the tabs for the track vents installed. Doesn't the 1LE have the same track vents the SS have and have to be put on or are they installed and just left on? I didn't notice them hanging under the car. |

Yeah, I dunno about the vents. I would think they would have used them if they were available....They are a stock SS item....Unless the larger rotors make them unuseable....????...Not sure.... |

This must really sting for anybody who shelled out $75,000 sticker for the 2015 Z/28. The 2016 1LE is as fast or faster for 60% of the price. This really shows what's possible when you get an opportunity to re-engineer a car from the ground up versus throw a ton of additional parts and money onto an original design that just wasn't as capable.

I've not seen too many low or under car pics of 1LE in final form to know how they did the track vents.. and, if it's an option on the SS models, I'm just curious what they did with it.. Previously, you weren't supposed to leave them in or the smaller backing plate on due to debris interaction and weather exposure. It's entirely possible they changed the vents up enough that they go on at the factory and stay on. I just don't know if anyone ever confirmed that.. We've seen some of the ZL1 venting -- but, I don't remember too much on how the 1LE was set up. I've noticed a difference on a track with them off, so they do work. I'm just curious if that was a contributing issue or if the pads really did get hot (or if the brake fluid was just starting to get over temp) -- if it was just the brake fluid, that's a non-issue and easy to deal with thing. Pads getting hot takes more money and time to swap. Last edited by HumanWiki; 09-20-2016 at 10:54 AM. |

The Goodyear Supercar's are not in the same tire class as Cup 2's, which is why they aren't going to give the same grip level. Your logic is unsound and akin to saying a Hoosier R6 is slower than a Goodyear Supercar, because new tires must have more grip. It obviously doesn't work that way. If you spend as much time at the track as some of us, then you'll find out over time which tires grip better. While street tires have gotten much better over the years, they're still not track tires, hence the terminology and the categories. All of that is a sidebar to the topic here; how the cars lap "out of the box", and that includes the tires as part of the package. Swap out the stock Goodyears for Hoosier R7's and [assuming you can drive] of course you'll shave several seconds off the lap time.

Also note the Audi R8 V10 Plus is slower at VIR than the 1LE, but much quicker at Laguna Seca. Different pecking order for different tracks.

It doesn't need a "better transmission". Even a rear gear swap (few hundred bucks) will do that. But, it depends on what tracks you run if you'd wanna do that in the first place...

the flat power curve barely benefits from short gearing.

Run twenty laps in a gen6 1LE and twenty in a gen5 Z/28. Bet the outcome would be very different.
Either way, that is a very impressive run. Blows the doors off my ZL1. |
