Interesting the rumors of the 1:37.6 were a little off. Still faster than the Z/28 though

2017 SS 1LE = 1:37.78

"But but the GT350 will need to be shifted less often because it revs higher"

Good showing.. Did much of the lap in third gear.

1:37.78 at Laguna Seca is no joke...

Quicker than the last Z/28 1:37.82 (which had super sticky tires and CCB's) with the same driver at the wheel too...that alone is amazing.

Also quicker than the below cars, all with the same driver:

Corvette Z51 1:38.28
ATS-V Coupe 1:39.65
BMW M4 1:39.69
Aston Martin V12 Vantage S 1:41:77

Heck, even the super expensive ($135,000+), M4 GTS BARELY nipped it...at 1:37.66.

This car is a Gen 5 Z/28 in performance, yet better, with a new chassis, mag ride over spool dampers, and a $30k less price tag. Holy crap GM!

I wonder how this would perform with Sport Cup 2s on it...

That to me is within the margin of error. I'd be willing to bet that hot lapping these cars back to back over the course of a day with RP at the wheel they'd give and take laps back and forth.

Still, thats seriously impressive given the price tag of the 5th gen Z and the 6th gen 1LE. What a performer.

Biggest thing from what I read is that the SS 1LE is MUCH easier to drive fast on track when compared to a Z/28. Smoother, less bouncy, more controlled, etc...

There's no question which car I would rather have on the track.....

The big question now is what's still on the table for the Camaro. The 1LE surely just blew a bunch of minds.

The next Z28, or whatever they call it, is going to be sick...I'm thinking 1:35.xx range at LC...

Looks like this car could certainly benefit from a 3.91 rear axle ratio. I'm sure I won't be trying it though. I'm admittedly a beginner at track driving and I think the less shifting would be a benefit for me personally until I get better. Everything I hear about this car makes me think I made the perfect choice for all around great driving car, and a beginners track day car.
