I usually don't get one, sometime, but most times not. I did get on with my '16 SS, since it is an new model/gen and the fact that I got a great deal from my dealer. 6 years/72K mile bumper to bumper with $100 deductible, for around $1200. It is peanuts compared to what one repair can cost these days.

Cadillac keeps sending me warranty extensions since my SRX is only in factory warranty until the end of the summer, but yes you can buy after the fact, typically more $ though. Cheapest typically, but not always, is to buy at the time of purchase, at least for my dealer who sells a ton of GM vehicles and gets great discounted prices for warranties for the volume they do.

I'll see if they can bring it down to $1200 but with my wheels and tires protection it would probably be around $1700. But thanks for letting me know. Helpful to compare. Granted not every dealer will offer the same but it's still good to get a ballpark figure. 2016 Camaro 2SS Jet Black 6MT NPP MRC

Humm... I got the GM 7yr. 100k "bumper to bumper" warranty for $850.00! And a "0" deductable !! That seems worth it to me! Had one on my last vehicle that I had for 1 year and then sold. I was able to get back 80% of the cost in a check to me. I'd say go for it if you can get it down in price!

I only insure major losses and car repairs don't fall into that category IMO. I view extended warranties are like Las Vegas. The house always wins.

I do have a good experience with extended warranties. I would say is worthwhile to purchase it. I have a friend who is service manager and he always said to me that extended warranty is also a great thing for the owner.

What the other guys have said is pretty true. I all the time get discounts in extended warranty. I am purchasing one for my SS Six gen and the dealer price was 3250 and I got it down to 2500 and the dealers are still making money on me!!

In 22 years of owning cars I have only needed to shop a car once and that was a Jeep Grand Cherokee - new tranny after only 6k miles. It was covered under the 3yr/36 standard warantee anyways.
100% true - the Finance guy at the dealership told me this "My job is to sell warantees...doesnt matter how much you pay, I get the same commission regardless." Nothing about getting whats best for the customer, just needs to make his numbers. He jumbled some numbers around and I got a FREE wheel and tire warantee - post me saying no to the extended warantee 5 different times. What does that tell you? I look at it this way, you are paying thousands up front for repairs with an extended warantee, plain and simple. Also remember the dealer charges twice the rate of any shop. If I have spent $3000 by 75K miles for repairs, I will never buy that car again - thats a LOT of repairs on modern cars with sealed trannies, 100k life spark plugs and synthetic oil being standard. Also consider most muscle car guys dont keep their cars 6 years - you will want a newer, technologically advanced - and faster- car well before then unless you become poorer. If you can afford a 40-50k car now, you can afford one later as well. Also you know full well you will be swapping parts out of your camaro at some point or tuning it...lets be serious here! Dont believe some of the low ball prices you see here, there are also different levels of coverage...thats IN ADDITION to the length terms. Not all extended warantees are the same. Ive been through this process 17 times now and have saved - by estimation - 25k in needless warantees. Last edited by DisturbedSS; 08-29-2016 at 01:02 AM. |

That's exactly where I come out also. Keep the GUARANTEED money in your pocket rather than gamble that you might come out ahead with an extended warranty.

GM extended my b2b warranty by 2 years after my car started having problems; so, if your car has issues, demand extended coverage .

If extended warranties were generally worth it to the customer, dealers (and everyone else who offers them) wouldn't be pushing so hard to sell them. Nobody works that hard to sell you something that will end up costing them money.
