But what do I know. I'm Just another Production supervisor for a seat manufacturing plant of a Top 5 auto manufacturer for the last 18 years. ( 10 years in Quality)
Yes, there's no practical reason to sit up while driving. Safety is for sissies by the way. I'm removing the seats all together and throwing a mattress on the floor.

That's the first logical explanation I've seen on this thread. Cheap bush league move by GM to save a dime, but at least you make sense.

So... you don't really know anything about seats then? Just blowing hot air? Figures what a keyboard warrior! That's sarcasm by the way, I was really contemplating doing this... but I wanted to make sure there isn't any big safety reasons that I would be forgoing... Think i'll pass. It doesn't bother me too much how much it reclines, but i'm sure my wife would greatly appreciate it.. Wonder if the ZL1 seats will go in the SS easy, I noticed that they fully recline.

What the guy didn't acknowledge is the fact that 99.9999% of modern cars have FULLY reclining power seats that fully meet all rear impact standards including anti-submarining and full whip-lash protection.

The few that actually do fail are due to defective components or assemblies, not because they don't have a reclining limiter.

Here is more support for this theory, which looks to be the correct one. The ZL1 seats recline just fine. If this were some way of avoiding lawsuits, the ZL1 wouldn't recline either. The only logical conclusion is that the seats used in 1SS 2SS 1LT and 2LT were designed for convertibles, not coupes. Since the ZL1 only comes in coup form, GM could make them recline back further.

Now it all makes sense

Oh, and before some one comes back saying, "the ZL1 is a track focused car, so GM doesn't need to make it safe for children." You should know that the SS is track sanctioned by GM (they will honor your Camaro SS warranty, even if a component fails due to track use). As far as I know, the SS has the same limited recline as the 1LT. So it's got nothing to do with whether or not a car is "track focused". It has to do with GM making the same seat design for both convertibles and coupes. Thus saving themselves a few bucks, and screwing non-ZL1 coupe owners in the process.

I'm half tempted to just buy the entire ZL1 seats for my car just for the suede and red stitching anyway!

My passenger seat recline is stuck as well. I can hear the motor move for about 2 seconds and a slight movement then stops in either direction

Have you gone in to get an update for the firmware on your MyLink Unit? I only ask because I had this same issue so I took my car to the dealer to have them update the firmware for my mylink unit so that I can use the android auto feature and to have them check on the recline issue. The weird thing was once they updated the MyLink firmware, the passenger seat recline issue was gone. Maybe it was just a coincidence but it fixed it lol.

And yes the service advisor and I checked to make sure the recliner was not working when I dropped off the car and they confirmed they did not do anything to fix it. After they updated the firmware for mylink they went to check out the seat and bam it was working properly. So now android auto and seat recline is functioning as it should
