I wonder since the 1LE will be an option package, not a different model or anything how good dealers will deal on them. It should be just the same as buying a regular SS...but some dealers can sure be dumb.

Lets say MSRP (without PDR) is $43,000. How much do we think we can get that for before tax, title, tags, etc? Below $40,000 I would hope?

This year they did a GM Card rewards pull-ahead and raised the limit on Camaros to $3000. If they do that and they can come down on the price a few grand I should be in for much less than $40K which will be a very good deal.

Tough to say. I would not expect more than 1500-2000 off in the first 3 months or so or until inventories for 2017 build. They may offer a conquest or lease loyalty incentive.

I'm hoping for some of that stuff as my wife has a Equinox lease, and my daily driver is a Ford. My friend when he got his LT got money off for both of those situations.

Point taken on the base M3, but that's still $15k more than a well-optioned 2SS.

I'm an old guy, not self-conscious, and my opinion of the BMWs has gone the other direction. I can't see myself driving one.

They used to be the 'Ultimate Driving Machine', and the car and road had a special connection. A connection much different than you would get from any American car not named Corvette.

Picked a G35S over a Beemer for price with my wife's employee discount in 2007. Assumed I would get my German car the next time.

Well, next time is here and all of the sudden America is making a legitimate sports car in the Camaro, and I'm no longer interested in looking elsewhere.

I don't expect to see dealers stocking many 1LEs for general inventory, so the fact you will probably have to order one may limit the ability to negotiate. Just MHO, hope I'm wrong on it.

Employee and supplier discount are a given, but it's not like you can walk in with a specific color in mind and they can ship one in from another dealer easily like with a regular 1SS or 2SS. Sometimes dealers are more willing to lower price to move existing units.

I'll be using supplier and the Farm Bureau discount in Ohio. That may get me about $2400 off of MSRP or in that ballpark.

I agree, though some large dealers may have a few in stock. I know in this area (Baton Rouge) the 5th generation 1LE was a rare sight at dealers. A lot of that has to do with the fact that it is only available with a manual transmission. It's hard enough to find a Camaro equipped with a manual transmission now.

Yep. When I bought my 2013 2SS 1LE, it was a rare find. The dealers by me usually only stock one at a time. In the 3 years I owned it I only saw two others on the road. So far in my Gen 6 I have only seen 2 other SS so far.

It's sad for us, but BMW (and Infiniti, and Honda/Acura, along with others) is going for sales numbers instead of enthusiasts. Average person just wants to go from point a to b without dealing with heavy steering or a firm ride. Look at how well the new ATS, CTS, and Camaro drive, yet they're all disappointments sales-wise. The one bright spot with BMW is the 2-series. It's a fun little car for people who like the older 3-series coupes.

However, I believe if both companies continue this trajectory, GM will eventually establish a strong engineering reputation (they are still recovering from the old GM stigma and some people are still bitter about the bailout).

Yeah, I didn't think about the manual tranny aspect of it.

And if Chevy's new business model is emphasizing unit profit over sales volume, that will make them harder to come by.

I was a little bitter about the bailout, but not bitter enough to not buy a 2009 CTS at a GREAT price. And the new ATS is what the 3 series used to be.

I agree with you about GM's future reputation. It will get better over time.

The M235 was the only BMW I even gave a passing glance, and when I went to build one I was frustrated by the package options and what I would have to buy to get just a few things that were important to me.

That's why the 1LE, although not checking every box, checks most of them.

Actually, it checks boxes that I may never need checked.

$45k MSRP would be my cut off for this car. Any higher than that, I'd buy a low mileage 2014-15 Z/28 instead. Only problem with the Z/28 is insurance. Even though you can get one under 50k, insurance rates are what you would expect for a 70k performance car. But as the saying goes, you need to pay to play.
