I'm at 970 and will hold off until 1500. Then I'll change the oil and diff and head straight for the track!

I think I liked driving the car during the break in better. It felt Pretty fast at half throttle, so I was looking forward to be able to full it and was pretty disappointed in after.

REally? So shifting to 6k you really can't feel the max HP then? These cars are torqey so the max amount of torque will be around 4k rpm.

I was really hoping to feel the full effect shifting at 6k.

Is yours an A8?

I have a manual. It's plenty fast for the street, but if I keep the car more then two years I will be getting some kind of forced induction.

Yeah, I did feel pretty foolish keeping it under 4000 for the first 1500 miles per the manual.

Make no mistake, we don't endorse abusing your drivetrain. However, some higher gear, WOT pulls are not abuse IMO. I have always broken my powertrains in that way. I have always had very dependable powertrains. If it ain't broke. Don't fix it.

All the best,

The precautionary principle suggests a break in period is a wiser decision.

This^^^ I'm not 8 years old so restraining myself to 4000 rpm for the first 1500 isn't killing me.

Exactly.

As noted (and ignored) before, you are breaking in the entire car. Diff, trans, tires, brakes, etc

But hey, it's your dime do as you please. Me? I'm an engineer that characterizes parts and writes datasheets for a living. If I put in my datasheet not to drive that CMOS logic circuit with more than 1.8 volts and you drive it with 3.3 volts, don't bitch to me that the amp doesn't work.
