Hey I'm driving threw Texas to find they only offer 90oct gas and lower is this safe for my LT1 M6?

vvt, variable valve timing, means the engine has a very good ability to adapt to different octanes of gas (within reason).

You wont damage the engine just from 87-90 octane. It just wont have as much pep is higher octane fuel.

90-octane is the "premium" fuel and 86 is their regular in the panhandle of Texas due to elevation. You will not have any issues. Use whatever the premium fuel is in the area and a stock car running the stock tune will be perfectly fine and capable of keeping itself safe.

I got a turbo VW as a rental the last time I was out there and it loved bombing around on 86-octane, and I was working it pretty hard too

Your car has timing tables to handle about any octane rating you will find at the pumps. You will be fine, most cars leave the dealerships with 87 anyways.

FACT. Most dealerships only have 1 tank on-site, and very few dealerships make a special run to fill a car with premium since that costs them time and money.

But maybe this is changing, in the 3 chev dealers i have bought from in the last 5 years, all 3 took me in the car for the delivery drive to go to a gas station and fill with the proper octane. All 3 dealers were from diff parts of the country, not assoc with each other.i did not ask for this to be done.

I asked mine what octane they had, and when he told me 87. I asked them to fill at the station. They had no problem, and even gave me a $50 gas card to get it done myself.

Just to clarify the previous post, Im not saying low octane is good, i will still only use 93 octane in my Camaro, but these engines have calibrations on all types of octane. Just know that you can have upwards of 15% power loss with lower octane fuel because your timing table gets adjusted downwards.

Here in Birmingham, Alabama, most of the local fuel contains 10% ethanol. This is fine for my Honda Civic Hybrid which takes 87 octane. I would probably have to look up a station that is ethanol-free...

When my 2SS comes in, should I be concerned about the 10% ethanol?

Not problem unless you only drive your car occasionally. If you're like me and you fill up every week no problem.
