It would be awesome to compare ACTUAL dyno data from a car broken in using by-the-book procedures vs. "drive it like you stole it".

Idk, I've driven her pretty hard, I guess I'll take it easy on her for a little while. What's the proper break in method? How many miles until break in is "over" ?

Well that is impossible. My car came off the truck with 10 miles on it from the factory.

I just about broke mine in. I gave up at 1000 miles. The Vette's LT1 is 500 miles, the crate motor manual is 500 miles etc. The Camaro manual asks for 1,500. I hit 1,001 and said GG.

Overall I changed the oil and you can see the metal from the cross hatching in the oil. Nice and sparkly. Not big debris or other items. But the fresh oil change honestly made the car feel and idle better. Had her dyno'ed once on a mustang dyno with no change or adjustments for whatever people adjust. I am going back on Thursday for another few Dyno runs with the VMAX ported TB and the BBK TB.

Interesting. Metal the oil filter didn't catch, or did you cut the filter?

The thing that nobody mentions is the fact that You are "Breaking in THE WHOLE CAR"!!!! With newer cars, The oil Tech. and tighter Tolerance's in the engine and the fact that ALL GM pushrod engines now have roller valve lifters. Engine breakin is mostly limited to the piston rings. ALL other parts (pistons,Bearings, Gears, pumps] all run on a cushion of oil. Rings seal within 10 miles. Nuff on the engine. In My opinion the components that requires a careful breakin is the A-8 Transmission and the rear Diff. and the Brakes. Some may not agree and that's OK!!! Everyone will do as they want to, and Hopefully Enjoy EVERY MILE!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no... sorry didn't clarify. It was in the oil filter oil I was able to convince its way out after taking it off the car. Just looks like shiny glitter

Like sledge I went to 1k miles. Changed oil at 500 with dealer provided oil and filter. I'll change the oil to full syn at 1500 along with the rear differential also. But at just under 1k miles I just had to race my buddy's 14 5.0 so I said **** it and ran him. Now I'm not beating on it like I normally would but have done a couple wot runs since. But for the most part I am being easy on it still.

Although a few things I have really noticed since the 1k mile mark:

The car is so much smoother at idle and just shifting (m6) in general feels almost like my 4th gen which is an extremely easy clutch to work.

Gas mileage is great surprisingly with the lt1 and 6 speed I get 22mpg mostly city and some highway and that's with spirited driving. The best I got was 26.5 so far.

And to the OP send me a message you should go to the 1320 street take over at firebird in February. I'll have the "break in" complete and may do a few runs.

Changed oil at 600 mi and oil color was medium, almost dark brown. I was a little surprised. I'm following break in with occasional punches up to 5k or so. I believe as long as your oil temp is above 150, you can push her a bit. Fresh oil change did make her feel to run smoother. I also added a magnetic drain plug. 1200mi currently.
