Because most people assume justs because they can afford the payment they can afford the car. A good rule of thumb is not to let the value of a car exceed 25% of what you make. All they do is go down in value anyways and most peoples networth is mostly in cars. (Example- 100,000 house+ 42,000 car) Now I don't know this guys current pay noir do I care because he's a grown man and can do what he wants but that's just a good way to go by. BTW I'm a big Dave Ramsey fan so I'm awee bit one sided on buying a brand new car.

Well $45K is 25% of $180,000. Somehow I don't think someone in school going for his masters is earning around $180K.

Ha, the problem with making assumptions without facts is that a person tends to get it wrong more often then they get it right.

Not that I need to justify anything, but I'm a software executive for a mid-sized internet company, I am in my mid 40's and I'm almost finished with my masters degree that is beneficial to my career advancement. I also didn't need to borrow money from my parents or a bank in order to buy my car. I've worked hard to get where I am and for you to assume that every person like me who is going back to school can't afford a car like this, is just plain ignorant.

Fair enough. You're the anomaly.

I thought this site was for car guys... Not finance experts? Leave the guy alone! This is about a badass car! Not whether you guys think he's "worthy" of affording it or not! Guy comes on the site to show off his new ride and you guys need to shit all over it and him!

As for break in, when I get mine, im gonna hammer it. Played the break in game with my 2010 and it made less hp/tq than everyone I knew that drove it how they wanted to.
Yeah, you and I are both going to get hate from the crowd. But, I took my '08 G8GT to a road course with only 200 miles on it. Put another 200 miles on it that day. Managed to overheat the stock brake pads, wear off about 1/2 of my tire tread, and melt the rear wheel well liners (heat from exhaust).

Yet, my car has 162k miles on it and still runs strong. When I rebuilt the top end at 130k miles (cam, lifters, pushrods, valves, springs, rocker arms, etc.), the pistons looked great, no carbon build up, and the cylinder walls snowed almost no signs of wear. And, a compression test both before and after the rebuild showed between 180-190 on all 8 cyl.

I'll do the same to my SS whenever it arrives.

The the rule of thumb that I always heard was that a 48 month car payment shouldn't exceed 10% of your net income.

I learned later in life that trading your daily driver every three years is the real killer. Now, for a driver, I stay within the previously mentioned rule but keep the car a minimum of 8 years. Buy something REALLY nice and average it out over time.

Nice car OP! I've ordered Kalahari with black suede knee pads to give it a higher end feel but not overwhelm with color. I've never seen the black suede knee pad so fingers crossed that it's a winner
