Beats the hell out of me, but that's how I read the initial question I was responding to, so I thought it was worth pointing out that it definitely should not be done:

"I wonder if there is a way to plug into the amp in the trunk to run another amp off of that and power some subs or 6x9's in the rear shelf for non bose cars."

Sounds like they're talking about running off of the positive and negative of the speaker in/output. THAT would change the ohm and probably fk something up

Just looked at my car. I do not have an amp of any kind in my trunk. Mother f! Getting a system in a non-bose car is going to be harder than I thought. Ill have to tap into the speakers in the back seat it looks like.

Usually the factory amps will be powered and grounded by 16 gauge wire, and just in general the units don't require the same amount of power as an aftermarket amplifier. Tapping into the factory amp power wire and trying to draw power for the new amp could/would most likely put the factory amp into protection mode. For this reason we always ran dedicated power and ground to any aftermarket amp. Also, not sure what size amp and sub you're looking to add, but I wouldn't use anything smaller than 4 gauge, although 8 might do for smaller setups. Signal wise though, If someone gets their hands on a wiring diagram you could potentially catch the line level output wires that run into the factory amp.
Remember the battery is in the trunk. Therefore the distance from battery to amp would be about a foot in most cases. At that distance 16 gauge would probably carry enough for basic full range amps or even a small sub. Anyone running 4 gauge in these cars with less than 2000 watts RMS is plain overkill. So while it's possible, it's also much easier to just run a separate power and ground for your amps with a 6th gen. So there's really no need to tap factory wires except for signal. And we have heard ******** is working on that, just like they had a harness for the factory system in the 5th gen.

Sub thump has NOT gotten their gen6 yet. NOT yet.

Do all non-bose systems not have the amp in the trunk?

Right but they are planning on it.

I'm pretty sure the 1SS and 1LT I saw didn't have an amp in the trunk. Probably using the head unit only.

Does it look like this? Thought I saw a pic of a 1SS without the amp on the left.

Good news for non-Bose people then.

Couldnt agree more with this, again I just initially read the comment I was first replying to as a question of if you could use the factory amp to catch everything there (signal, 12 constant, switch, and ground). I loved sub installs in the 5th gen for the same reason why it'll be so easy in the 6th, because the power run is so short and there's lots of good areas for a ground. As for the gauge recommendation, I'm definitely guilty of overkill but mainly just because we had to install per amp manufacture recommendations for liability reasons.

Has anyone had a chance to measure the speaker openings in the deck lid for non Bose systems? I can't imagine GM would be so kind as to use a standard size 6x9 or 5x7. I'd definitely love to put something in there since I now know there's at least still an amp in the trunk to catch the signal rather than trying to mess with the rear side speakers (which look like a b**** to get to at first glance).

Sorry, I lied. After giving it another look over it's different, but still an amp.

I was just about to post up my image of the amp in my 1SS. Its there, but smaller than the upgraded BOSE amp for sure.

I'd love to add something to the rear shelf to add more bass, and NOT use a base + subwoofer in the limited trunk space.

Anyone have any thoughts about putting a couple small dedicated 6" woofers in there? I would slapping in some 2 or 3 way 5x7s or 6x9s in there be a better choice? Honestly, I'm pretty happy with the sound of the standard stereo, but getting closer to the base response of the upgraded BOSE system would be my goal.
