Thank you Dan. Agreed on the color, it looks quite nice.

An axleback that is compatible with dual mode exhaust since it would be cheaper than a catback and would get rid of the giant muffler which isnt popular.

A 3" SS catback exhaust. It would need to be drone free, have an option for h or x pipe.

An H-pipe compatible with stock pipes to get a better sound and possible eliminate some resonators, restrictions, etc.

A dual fan heat exchanger for future supercharging needs. Fans should be extra quiet since fan noise is always a complaint you hear about for dd cars.

Thats all I can think of. Good luck!
Thank you very much for the recommendations and input. We are definitely going to be tackling the exhaust system as quickly as we can. The factory muffler setup is massive. I imagine we can improve sound and drop a little weight while we are at it. H or X pipe has been a frequent discussion here lately. I believe we will be designing both setups and evaluating them. We will definitely be keeping you guys in the loop with images and video.

Interesting idea for the heat exchanger. We will have to take a close look at available real estate on the 2016. They packed a ton of cooling units on this car so we will need to find space.

Thanks again!

Nice! Which catch can are you using? One of our baffled units? A direct-fit catch can system will be one of our first projects for the Camaro.

im curious about the exhaust. The removal of that giant muffler might cause an area of low pressure to be created in that open area. do you think this would be an actual concern? If so what can be done to alleviate that?

That is a great point Denis, and something we will need to evaluate once we pull the factory unit out and begin designing our counterpart.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Initial images are up! We also made our first couple of pulls on the dyno to capture some baseline data. Check it out!

Mishimoto: 2016 Camaro SS Baseline Dyno Data!

Our Camaro arrived late on Friday last week. As soon as it rolled off the truck, a swarm of employees surrounded the car, taking turns sitting in the seats, inspecting under the hood, snapping pictures, and wiping slobber from their chins. Alright, maybe not that last one. New development vehicles arrive here pretty frequently, but this one definitely attracted some attention. Being late in the day, we were left with the weekend to ponder and daydream about our turn at taking it for a spin. Before we left for the weekend, our team picked straws to see who would have the privilege of driving it first. One lucky team member took the car home for some break-in driving and splashed some water on the paint to clean it up from a long journey to our facility.

This morning, we slapped on our official “Development” banner and started working out our schedule for development as well as plans for coverage on reviewing this brand new model. Check out a Full gallery of images from the front, back, side, inside, outside, and every other angle I thought you guys would enjoy. If you would like an additional shot of something specific, feel free to let us know!

Full Gallery On Our Blog

We are very excited about the SS, the exhaust note is quite intoxicating and so far our short test drives have the team very impressed.
The first thing we want to do before pulling this car apart is get some baseline dyno data. Yep, this means we get to make some loud noises.

Check it out!

And, the plot!

Nice looking plot! Peak torque numbers were achieved in the mid-range from 4,000-5,000 rpm. Peak horsepower measured 414 whp and was attained at around 5,750 rpm. Pretty impressive numbers for a bone-stock vehicle.

Coming Up: Video Review Part 1

Our next video will feature a look at some of the interesting features on the new SS. We will also provide some general information and opinions from our first few days of ownership!

Thanks for reading!

I really doubt this is true. Especially since the GM Performance exhaust loses the giant muffler for two smaller ones...

Guessing those aren't SAE corrected numbers?

John, as you know almost all these performance cars (except one or two, like GT350) suffers from the Air intake being a big limiting factor and also the TB.

My suggestion is to remove this bottleneck that chokes the car and provide a free flowing CAI. Secondly, if it doesn't cause ECU hiccup, offer a larger TB, like Whipple does with their 132mm on the GT.
These two combo, can wake up the car with a good tune. That would be my first project.

My two cents...

And those would be fantastic two cents. Larger TB is an easy fix via ecu tuning and the car learning the parameters as well. And I think the main issue LT1 suffers is the air filter mainly thought the design doesn't help much. Another reason why they are offering a more airflow and better designed cai.

Another thing about the LT1 that restricts the vehicle is the intake manifold as well. My suggestion is getting the TB and IM ported. I won't mention the cats as I am keeping regulations and emissions and all out of the discussion (granted getting rid of the un-monitored cats on the xpipe can go and not have any emissions issues which will also help out with the better flow).

people said the cans on the 5th gen were for aero as well, and the GM performance exhaust got rid of them. only one way to find out I guess!

I think GM just says that to justify using a mailbox as a muffler.

Thanks for the recommendations Z. An intake design is already in the works by our team. The goal is higher airflow, less restriction, wrapped in a setup that compliments the engine bay nicely. We will have more details on this in the next week or so.

A larger TB would be a project new to our team. We've designed plenty of intakes but we do not typically delve into the manifold or TB. That being said, we do have some impressive machining capabilities, so it is definitely not out of the question. Passing this one along to our team for some further evaluation!

Thanks Tr6. We will be going pretty in-depth with our exhaust development. I believe we will be experimenting with both power and sound for various different setups.

Great information, thank you!
