I'm pretty sure this new engine will be awesome. I've been driving an '09 HHR SS 5-speed manual with a 2.0 turbo LNF engine daily since 2008 and I love that thing. So much torque in the low and mid range and I average 31-33mpg on the highway still 130,000 miles later. No sign of a struggle with five other people in the car and A/C on in the summer. My only mods are a cutout right in front of the muffler which actually barely makes it any louder with the turbo and cat sucking up most of the sound, and I tuned it with hp tuners.

I can only believe Chevy has majorly improved upon that engine design for this car and it will be even better.

Yup my 2010 CobaltSS LNF is at 212,000km. Stock 0-12k, Gms1 12k-130k, Trifecta 23psi from 130k-170k, Trifecta ECP 23psi(BOV added with intake/downpipe) from 170k-212k. Never had an engine problem still getting 28-32mpg just like when it was brand new.

FYI...Al Oppenheiser made the comparison to the 90's Z28 comparing it to the performance of the Camaro 2.0T.
I'm not surprised - he's put it in terms that anybody who knows only a little about cars can grasp . . . Done the comparison for them.

That last is one of the really nice things about the current crop of turbocharged engines. Mostly, all you have to do to go from relaxed cruising to decent acceleration or hill climbing ability is keep the revs up enough to have boost instantly on tap. Which isn't normally all that difficult. My wife's Subie (turbo 2.5L, 6M) is like that.

What I'm going to hate is the prejudice I'll be receiving from the V8 owners are car shows. I don't have a problem with any engine that comes with the cars, just the doushbag owners. Even in my camaro I don't get any love at any car show. As if anything less than 8 cylinders aren't accepted in a camaro.

You go to car shows with a stock LT expecting attention? Negative attention is just wrong but look at it this way. It's better than being invisible. Maybe they're jealous of your MPG.

My car is far from stock. I have a full flow master exhaust from an SS, SS BBK highflow cat, BBK headers and intake, RX performance catch can, Plenum and intake spacer, Eagle eye headlight with switch back turn signals. blacked out tail light surround, with heritage grill, and the trunk heritage stripe. I am also the only LS with heated leather seats. I also have a grant steering wheel, barton short throw shifter, and TWM weighted big type R shiftnob. Far from stock my friend.

I can already hear it. "Nice car.... Too bad it's not the V8." And, "Why didn't you get the SS/V8?".

Im also anticipating every mustang, wrx, evo, and riced out compact trying to race me.

Ricers if anyone should understand being mocked and making the most out of small displacement.

There's always the exception, but under powered cars are what fuels the mod market. Most kids (and wage slaves) can't plunk down enough money for a powerful car to start off with. They can only afford to make it faster little by little. And I'm not just talking about V6's. The SS owner is striving for Z28/ZL1/Z06 performance. I just wasn't willing to go into debt to have a Z06 or even a ZL1. As much fun the mod game is, if I had the cash I'd just get a Corvette Z06 (or an Aventador for that matter) and enjoy awesome performance right out of the box.

I get what you are saying. It is definitely a demographic. Though you can't argue that they will attempt to race at every opportunity.

And I'd argue that it would be far easier to mod a used V8 Mustang/Camaro faster and easier than a tiny 4 banger.

Edit: I apologize. I didn't want to turn this into a debate...... Just my mid life old man observations. I appreciate the tuner scene. Also appreciate what the big money cars are capable of. Just don't much like the fast & furious stickers, stance, wheels, & wing club.

What purpose does it serve to have a huge wing in the back of a front wheel drive car?

Rear aero lift at speed on a road course doesn't care which wheels are driving the car. If anything, there can be as much need for rear aero downforce (or at least less rear aero lift) on cars that only carry 38% of their weight on the rear tires as on cars with more like 48% rear weight.

Whether the owner of a car tagged "showoff" ↑↑↑ understands that is a separate question . . .

That is exactly what I hear all the time. I also hear "why put so much money into a six"? I love whipping the smiles off of their face when I got to thunder, and lighting in Medford NJ.

I too hate the extremes of the four banger crowd. What really draws me to four cylinder or even in the 5th gen v6 is the underdog status that the vehicle has. I love hearing " that is a V6" when I pass them up of the road coarse in their porches, vets, and miatas.
