THAT question - what engine, came up for me in almost every conversation about my Camaro. Most of the time it went, "Do you have the V6 or the REAL motor?" Maybe I just attract pricks, but that's how it went.

It's all in how the question was worded . . . "V6 or the real motor" is the way somebody actively looking to put your choice down (and you along with it) asks it.
Something like "Does it have the LFX?" has a much different flavor. Norm

It's cool that some of you guys got lots of power out of the V6. Seems like a good engine. But the reason people ask if your car has the V8 is because it's about the brawny looks and sound of power that the V8 carries . You simply cannot deny it. It's what the car is about because of it's history (Yes I know a V6 was offered in the early days). You can stuff a 800hp v6 in there and people still won't be impressed unless you're just trying to get the best track time. Then yeah, that's great, it's fast. Big deal. I don't race or track at all even though I have the V8. I love the beauty of the exterior, the sound when I drive it, the smoothness of the V8 and the power on tap if I want it. It's feels like the right combination for a Camaro and how I grew up seeing them. Anything less doesn't feel right TO ME. If it's good for you, then great. But to me all the 4 Bangers are just gonna be half a Camaro. It simply sours the pedigree and I'm glad I own the generation pre-dating the 4 bangers. Last edited by Jasper; 11-20-2015 at 07:53 PM. |

Again, if you're that concerned about what other people think about your car, you have bigger problems than what engine you have.

Oh yeah, in the early days, the vast majority of U.S. domestic sixxes (meaning all of the sixxes fitted to Camaros) were inline. As in IL-6 or L6. A little (more) knowledge about what you're claiming is an unsatisfactory combination for you would help your cause. Put a red SS badge on the rear of an RS-equipped LT Camaro and keep the hood closed and you'll find that many people asked at random really won't be able to tell that it isn't an SS. Maybe most of them. Quote:

Subscribed. I'm trying to decide between the V-6 and 2.0T.
Not interested in the V8, any longer. |

Same here, I would love the V8 but this is going to be my daily driver. I never owned a turbo and Ive been wondering how reliable are these engines going to be in the long run.

I went v6 because it will be my daily driver and I live in a city.
I'd rarely get the opportunity to use the power of the V8 safely or legally. And being honest I'm not sure that I'm skilled enough for a 4 second car. For me the V6 felt like the right choice. And to the guy getting 30 mpg with a turbo 4 crossover: how the hell are you doing that? Highway mileage? I drive a VW GTI and I get 20 mpg average per tank (2L turbo). Got 34 mpg in my wife's puny 2L non-turbo'd Subaru Crosstrek going to the coast and back a couple weeks ago. Due to the problems I've had with the GTI I have no intentions to buy another turbo car ever again.

The 2016 Camaro V6 is eliciting responses from Auto journalists such as "It should have an SS badge on it". (Quote from Motor Trend, I believe).
Implying that the new V6 is stupid fast. More than enough power for me. However, the T4 has me very intrigued. As much HP as the Z28 from the 90's with a flat torque curve. People have said they don't like the "feel" of a turbo charged car. A long time ago I took a turbo powered Audi A4 for a drive. Didn't like it at all. Maybe it was just the Audi turbo I didn't like. I plan to make back to back test drives of the V6, then the turbo when my dealer has them to test drive. Something tells me my next vehicle will be a NA v6 sixth gen. Camaro. But who knows ? Al O. and team will engineer another winner. Remember, he thinks this new 2.0T is a "Rock Star". |
