Most magazines are getting 13.7 to 13.8 for the V6 and 14.1 to 14.2 for the I4 turbo. It won't take much to knock half a second off the little 4 banger.

Truth is, regardless of magazine hype you can count on seeing a lot of people running slow with them.
I won't argue with that but mine won't get 22 mpg city and 31 highway (though close 26 for highway).

They aren't slow pokes that is for sure.

Two pretty distinct camps here. Maybe the true genius of Detroit to make all the engine options. From a marketing (bottom line) perspective, I guess if I were in the position to have to make the decision, I'd sign onto it. But I ain't so I wont!

As has been said 1000X 4cyl help CAFE and allow us to keep our V8s.

And why does it have to be a comparison? GM is giving customers the cars they want. I'm not sure anyone will suddenly go V8 to T4, but to discount them just because is silly. No one is arguing dump your V8 for a T4 (at least I would hope not).

They are giving us what we want NOW! It's become fashionable in America to shame the haves and become more like the have nots. Here's a statement from January 14, 2015:

"In a statement that might alarm die-hard V8 enthusiasts everywhere, a Ford representative at NAIAS 2015 in Detroit confirmed what many people had suspected, and some had feared: The V8 powerplant in Ford’s street cars is being phased out altogether, and we can expect it to be absent from most, if not all, of Ford’s road cars by 2017. Both the Mustang and F-150 will exclusively run 4 and 6-cylinder EcoBoost engines."

GM has and will follow suit. And when the Saudis throw the switch and jack oil up $2.00/gal, your V8 will become a distant "experiment" gone wrong. "What were we thinking..." We may get stylish little boxes to drive around this time around but by 2020 they'll all be powered by, "eco boosted, climate-change-friendly, don't offend the new generation (insert letter here) with your gas guzzling, carbon mill, POS's!

Enjoy them now, folks! "The times, they are a changin'." - Bob Dylan 1964

the average consumer nowadays are worried about gas mileage and smaller cars and getting from point a to point b without their gas gauge needle moving. People like us with a passion for power are a dying breed. With that being said I say let people have their gas savers, hell even turn the camaro into one, there are plenty of Previous gen Camaros and classic rides I would much rather have than some new plastic putt putt cart with a 1.0L turbo. Hell as it stands right now I'm in the hunt for a used Viper and we all know those get as good of gas mileage as filling a V8 Camaro halfway then pouring the rest of it on the ground.

I'm a little sceptical, but I won't pass judgement till I actually have time behind the wheel of one.

And living it! Oil embargo 1979 spawned things like crappy K cars and rise of Toyota et al in the 80's. Reduced nat'l speed limit. $5.00/gal gas in CA - for what reason, pay for new Saudi drilling technology? The Ford Excursion was shamed to near extinction for its unfriendly enviro status. The longer you live, the more you relive the past!

...
And a Ford representative immediately shot that down as not having coming from anyone that knew what they were talking about. THEN FORD RELEASED A NEW V8 ENGINE. They didn't spend all that money on a flat plane V8 to quit making V8s in two years.

If you want to worry about losing V8s, you should worry about losing them in Pickups. That is where the real FE pressure is now, not in the very limited number of cars that have them today. If we lose them in trucks because they can't get the FE numbers where they need to be for that footprint, then that will either drive up the cost of V8s for cars, stifle development of better versions or both.
