At a car show today our local BMW dealer was a sponsor and had a few BMWs to test out.... the BMW is a truly refined vehicle, and has always been in my top 5, The model was a 428 Coupe 2.0L turbo. Everything was a great fit and feel until i looked at the STICKER.... the old saying Sticker Shock, no seriously I could not believe it

When I was pricing out a 4 Series, I was really disappointed in how BMW nickel and dimes its customers.

-There is an upcharge for any paint color except the non-metallic white and black.
-There is an upcharge for any real leather.
-Keyless entry and push button start are a $2,200 option!!! This came standard on my $25k Kia.
-Backup Camera is not standard ($1,000).

In short, any Camaro and 4 Series I equipped the same had roughly a $20k difference. This completely eliminated it from consideration for me. The aura of BMW wasn't worth that kind of money to me.

BMWs are nice, when I was a youngster, my roomate had a 318ti that we ended up swapping an LS1 into after he blew up the 1.9L with a bit too much nitrous and not nearly enough fuel.

My biggest complaint about BMWs is how they tend to look very similar to all other BMWs, at least from a distance. Oh, and the price, it's not a cheap machine.

They do add about 8 to 10 grand for the BMW name, so it is normal.

Audi is the same exact way, same generic corporate boring look at all of their models...I can't tell the difference most times unless I look at the back and see the "A" badge to see what # it is.

Haha, yeah... It's included in the base cost.

I have nothing against BMWs, I do love their new m4 (prolly has something to do the with the name LOL!). Maintenance, repair, insurance, cost of owning one, depreciation value and buying one new is just way too high. Everything has pro's and con's though.

I don't care for anything that they make, along with Audi. Anytime I always say something like that to someone that owns one I get the response, "oh you just can't afford one!" And my response is, "yes I can afford a bunch of them, I don't care for any of them, it is not a money issue!".

Yes, I hate the corporate family approach to styling. It is lazy and gives each car no personality of its own. The success of Audi is even more remarkable to me, at least BMW is still mostly RWD and performance oriented with most of their vehicles.

Ugh, I wouldn't want to own one in fear of being associated with this attitude. That roommate with the BMW 318ti even had to deal with a similar situation:

He was 19 at the time, he found the car, financed it himself, paid the note himself, payed his own down payment. But, because it was a BMW, his parents said "You don't deserve that car" and tried to take it away from him. It blew my mind.

I know all cars in some shape or form have the typical stereotype, but BMW just seems to have too many of them from whom I have come across. And to boot, so many of them that I have come across are not real car people like us, they can't even tell you the slightest detail about the car, like engine specs, suspension, etc. That is why I really hope the decision makers in GM keep Cadillac out of that snobbish territory and keep is purely American!
