My 1969 Camaro had very good visibility. Hearing that the 2016 does not really have improved visibility over the G5 is annoying. I was hoping to pick up a V6 as a DD. Will have to drive one to see, but you really do want good visibility in a car you're commuting in.

Also, what's up with the dickish responses from some when the visibility is brought up. Uncalled for.

If one is incapable of responsibly using mirrors, it doesnt matter if its improved or not. They shouldnt be driving....anything.
This should be one of the most insignificant criticisms. Along with, "I cant comfortably rest my arm out the window".
If this is the worst said(which luckily, even THIS is now mixed opinions!) then we have an AWESOME car coming!!!

I may have been one that gave a response you may not have liked before - sorry if I did. A main reason I do respond though, is because I have zero visibility issues and it's because I've adjusted my mirrors/seat properly; PROVING that it can be done. So many people don't know how to use their mirrors properly & just blame it on the C pillars.

You've proven it works for you. Me? I depend on head checks left and right to change lanes. Agree many people adjust mirrors incorrectly. But my SS for example has a large rear spoiler that blocks some of the ISRV mirror.

Truck drivers depend heavily on mirrors but even those are far from perfect.

And yes you can buy a G-van with no side or rear glass and get used to that.

Previous post was that some people feel like they are personally attacked by any negative claims about the Camaro and have lashed out.

Yes you can get used to the poor visibility and make it a non issue for you. That, however doesn't change industry standard for measuring and the Camaro has poor outward visibility. And that isn't an attack, it's just a fact.

Do note that *you* have zero visibility issues. A person with the same height/weight as you, same correct mirror and seat adjustmenets could possibly have visibility issues that you don't have. It's kind of a personal thing - two people in the same scenario can have drastically different opinions on what makes for acceptable visibility.

We asked a designer: What have you done to improve the outward visibility of this new car over the last one? He replied something along the lines of “Camaro owners haven’t told us that that was something they felt needed to be improved and they liked the styling of the car.”

Kinda funny how one article says it's vastly improved and another says it didn't need improvement.

It may be the Car & Driver writer just doesn't like Camaro's. Seemed he threw in jabs wherever possible, contradicting other reviews.

He is after all, an opinionated person, just like us.

Out of curiosity, how do you guys adjust your mirrors?

I hear a lot of "I have no problems when I properly adjust my mirrors." As someone that has no experience in a 5th gen, I am curious to hear what process was used to mitigate blind spots.

The way I was taught...

You shouldn't see your car in your side mirrors without having to lean a little bit (for when backing into the garage, etc).

Many folks will angle their mirrors in such a way that they see a lot of their vehicle in the mirror, which actually reduces the amount of visibility into the lane next to you.

If you want, find a parking lot, find a spot where you can put a vehicle in your blind spot, and then adjust.

Your side mirrors should just barely, if at all, catch the rear of your car. The further "out" they are the smaller the potential blind spot is.

In the 5th gen, set your rear view mirror to your liking first.

Then, for the drivers side mirror, put your head close to the windows. Adjust the mirror until you can just barely see the "rear hips" of the car. Now, for the passenger side mirror...put your head near the center of the cabin between the two front seats...adjust that mirror similarly so you can just barely see the hips.

Now you should be very close. The goal is to have anything that comes out of the visibility of your rear view mirror, now just starts to appear in the side view mirrors. It worked great for me.
