Why is Chevy not advertising a horsepower boost with the NPP exhaust?

Why is Chevy not advertising a horsepower boost with the NPP exhaust?

They did on the C7 and its the same engine, LT1, with the same exhaust code, NPP.

Maybe they didn't achieve one, maybe they are waiting.
Whole lot of info was not said yet about the car.

Alternatively, it could be that the 455 that they've been advertising is with the performance exhaust & it might be 450 (or so) without.

But really, does it actually matter? If there is any gains, its going to be roughly 5 hp. Thats not going to do anything to appreciably change the performance of the SS. It might make people feel better to quote a higher hp number ... but a 1% difference isn't going to have any real effect on how quick the car is.

That would suck for the non-NPP people.

I've never seen any one including GM advertise their HP ratings unless marked with a asterisks for their engines with a performance exhaust. I highly highly doubt they would start now.

They've added the exhaust to the 2016 SS as well and thus far they've stuck with the 415 for the LS3. No mention of a bump.

The only reason I can think of is that it requires a certified dyno test.

Also, I don't think the C7 mentions a HP bump does it? I'm going to go check.

Yep, C7 gives a bump from 455 to 460.

C7 uses equal length cast iron manifolds.

It's possible that the NPP exhaust system allows the manifolds to flow a bit better, thus gaining 5hp, while the Camaro, with it's tri-y headers, may not have any gains from NPP.

However, my guess is SAE certification for horsepower is expensive, and seeing as they've already done it on the Corvette, consumers will already have an idea that NPP adds 5hp.

If that's the case, nothing like irritating your customer base by misguided PR.

All 5th Gen SS LS3's were rated for the same hp. You would have to think that electric assisted power steering and NPP would add something to the LS3.

The NPP for the Camaro was developed from the ZL1. I guess it was good enough to have as an option for the manual packages and still good enough for the Z28! I'm glad that I ordered it on my car, I would want it again.

Now, 6th Gen offers it right away and with more packages! I can't wait to here one in person.

The LS3 engines in C6 Corvettes were rated at 430 HP and increased to 436 HP with the addition of the NPP exhaust.

Most of us spend a lot of money on axle back exhaust systems where the manufacturer claims as much as a 15 HP increase, but I doubt anyone could prove that with a dyno comparison of before and after. However, if you're a drag racer and .001 improvement in your ETs wins a race, you might appreciate 6 HP.

I'm confident the new engine is much more efficient than the LS3 and the HP increase with NPP may not be measurable. I added the remote actuated switch on my Grand Sport for the NPP since, when open and at steady speeds, it does have a minor drone to the exhaust sound. It doesn't bother me, but my wife wouldn't like it so I can close the valve when I want to.
