the 2010 model is basicly just cosmeticly difrent from the 2009. just a tweak on the pcm also.

i spoke with a guy i know that tunes fords for a living here in southern california and he varifeid all the internet hipe on these cars. he told me a 2lb incress in boost and the thing will put down 550 rwhp with 91 octane allday long.

slap a blower on the ls3 and it on

whipple and kenne bell have told me over the phone that they are making bolt on smog legal kits

The 2010 has a brand new blower set up on it. WWW. Motrortrend.com read the article.

That GT500 is a beast and for the 4000 difference from a 2SS and that you will not be able to make up the difference in the money you save. Please dont throw the 1SS at me either because that does not offer comparable equipment

That is true, I would like to see how much of a difference both models will be after dealer mark up and assuming that the GT500 will be slapped with a gas guzzler tax.

yea the GG tax will suck..dealer mark up I dont add because thats a nefarious charge that no one should ever pay. so car for car equipment for equipment the GT500 although at a slight premium is the king of the hill

I have to disagree, I have a couple years of track experience and there are two things here.

1) 0.7 second difference for cars travelling well over 100 mph (147 ft/sec) is a HUGE gap in distance.

2) Also being at a 7 mph deficit in trap speed means that the Shelby is still pulling away from the SS very stongly, and the gap between the cars is only increasing. Even a difference of only 2 mph in trap speed is very noticeable at the track.

This is corvette territory in straight line performance..... and before anyone says it.....yes a Corvette handles better than a Shelby GT500

Mods are always a wild card, and it is hard to accurately measure one car vs. another once those are involved. A $500-$1000 pulley swap and retune would push a GT500 over 600 bhp so you can see that mod counting is a difficult game.

And adding a supercharger to the SS wouldn't make it competitive with the GT500...if you want to talk equipment for equipment?

No, because you wont be able to run anything like the kind of boost the GT500 can handle on it's stock, forged internal short block unless you rebuild the engine in said Camaro SS with similar forged internals.

This isn't a fair comparison, with both cars making compelling arguments intheir respective price ranges. And as the GT500 is the more expensive car geared in many ways toward those who might want to tweak their cars it responds better to the same. If you have the extra 10k or so to spend the GT500 gives you something worthwhile for your money, if you don't the 2SS makes a compelling argument in it's own right.
