I was just thinking the same thing on the way home... I had to drive a truck home for my dad today, its an '09 5500 crew cab with a dump bed on it (long bed). The torque in that thing is unreal..... I was doing 70-75 on the highway and it was so quiet! And downshifting with the exhaust brake coming to traffic lights.... that's just too much fun!

I'll bet you could stand outside of Ford and GM after the announcement, and hear a collective,"oh shit!"
They have been saying oh shit lol. The urea is freezing in the northern states, which is giving GM a big headache trying to find a fix for it.

I'd still rather have a Silverado HD. They had me at "fully boxed frame."

The new Ram is one heck of a truck, and I'm obviously a dodge truck guy, but the problem with the HD Hemi's is the scheduled maintenence- every 30K you have to put $1,000 worth of maintenence into them for the "Hemi Tune" which includes 16 new spark plugs. I love having a HD truck, but I could never justify a diesel even if 800 foot pounds of torque would be sweet to have. I actually just drove a GMC 2500 6.0L today and it was really nice. I've been able to compare Ram, Ford, and Chevy trucks and in my opinion it's a race between Ram and Chevy- the Super Duty is over priced and boring.

Wonder how well it performs in the real world vs the Ford and GM HD's. As we've seen in a number of head to head comparo's over the last 6 months or so, Ford had the better specs but GM's efforts generally proved to actually be better when you load 'em up and start working.

there is a comparison in either the Diesel World or Diesel Performance magazine where they tested the new silverado vs the new superduty... GM bought the ford trucks to test cus ford wouldnt step up to the plate... and sadly dodge was left out cus the cummins is behind the power curve of the other two

The new 6 speed auto in my Dodge is very refined, downshifts, with no hunting. The tow/haul mode is very smooth when towing, and the exhaust brake is very positive.I had a 2005 GMC with the Duramax/allison combo. No doubt it has many features, but definately not a deal maker.
As for power, everyone with a diesel is running a tuner, or more, if they are hauling anything big. To be honest, only ranchers hauling tandem dually goosenecks, with rolls of hay, come close or exceed the towing capacity.I'm talking 20,000lbs,if a redneck can get the trailer to move, the truck obviously is rated for it.
