Both of those laps had some traffic that probably averages out. My line this past weekend was much better than what I was running back in October. Lots of rim slip on the front wheels, I’m braking much deeper and harder going into 1,11, and 12 on these tires. (175 was too early into 12 this trip; I was braking at 200 last time and was too deep several times). I haven’t had a chance to pull the wheels to look at overall wear yet. They seem to have come up to temp pretty quickly. Once I figured out where to be with pressures I was seeing 27 cold to 33/34 hot after 9ish laps. If I remember correctly, ambient temps were in the mid 50’s in the AM, to low 70’s afternoon. Skies were clear and track was dry. Overall, amazing grip! We will see how they hold up over the next event.
You should be faster on the SC3Rs IMO so probably you’re just getting the line better. Keep your foot down through turn 2 and you'll gain a second or 2. The car should hold 90+ mph at the apex with SC3Rs. Nice job through the esses. A lot of people are flat out at turn 8 into 9,10.

Thanks!

I warn sure that mustang was going to let me by so I lifted for a second. Then that jalopy kind of screwed me up going into 11. I assume that short shift from 3/4 is the right move going into 2 as well? The esses are a blast, love em (unless I screw up the first apex, then they suck) .

I’m definitely excited to get back in October. I learn a lot this last time (and pretty much only drove one day due to the WX Saturday. I learned quite a bit from two sessions with a different instructor on alternate lines.

I’m going to look into finding a place to leave my rig so I can come back for the November Chin dates. I’m sure that won’t be easy with F1 just a couple weeks after the Oct. event. We could just fly home in October, then back to Austin in November.

The short shift to 4th can only help if you can get to > 112mph at turn 3 where I hit the redline in 3rd. I go flat out in the ZL1 through turn 2 in 3rd so I wouldn't short shift if breaking the tail loose in turn 2 is a concern. Trust it. Enter Turn 2 from the left side of the track as I think you did.

Use the straight between 3-4 as a quick braking zone (so full throttle to the apex at turn 3 then quick stab of the brakes). The esses are where many people lose time including me if I relax too much. Try to keep it above 80mph until you set up for turn 6.

For your rig there are several places for RV's, boats around Lake Travis. It's pretty low-key safe out there and some have 24hr security. A bit of a drive to the track but piece of mind.

Went to Laguna on new Hotchkis sway bars. This was before adjustments were made. An improvement but I think I should be faster.

Realized I never sent this one in! I still need to put the video together because not only was this the first, and likely last, time I'll ever visit COTA but I also got a chance to have Randy Pobst drive my car with me in the passenger seat. Super cool guy! It was a blast and I'm also proud, I know it's douchey, to say he only bested me a little more than 1 second.

Very nice lap!! One day I’ll get in the 20’s. (Fingers crossed!)

I tried to get a quick chat with him last month but there was a crowd around him so I just went on my way. Maybe next time.

I really can’t say enough good things about Randy. I’ve had several interactions with him and every time I walk away smiling. He’s just a genuinely down to earth guy.

For example, he was incredibly gracious and even thanked me for letting him drive my car... yes, my $50K Camaro, right after stepping out of a race‑prepped Viper ACR and, just before that, a 911 GT3RS Manthey.

That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the kind of person he is.
