I use torque pro,
it's better at watching live data than any others I've looked at, it's $5 on the play store. I don't know if Apple ever got it. You would need to get a bluetooth obd2 adapter from Amazon. Like $20 so for around $30 you would be able to read and clear ECM/TCM codes. Plus watch live data on customizable screens with your choice of line graph, bar graph, live number, half dial, half dial with live numbers, So you could easily watch fuel trims from your phone while driving. Or check your speedometer accuracy vs gps speed. If you correctly fill in the info about your vehicle then it has widgets to tell you estimated HP, quarter mile, eighth mile, 0-60, 0-100. A lot of things your car already does just an ability to back check them against each other. |

I've used this combo for over a decade:
$5 ELM327 bluetooth scanner (Amazon or Ebay) $5 Torque Pro app (Android, but there are similar for Apple). Never needed anything more for my vehicles. And it is the single most often used tool I own. Also useful when I sit in the back seat while one of my kids is test driving a prospective purchase. I can watch the fuel trims, check last time codes were cleared, all the good stuff. |

Ok. Have a single code. P0305.
Upon physical inspection I found the air cleaner boot wiggle loose. But would that only affect one cylinder. I will figure out which cylinder is 5 and see if I can check plug and related wiring. Any other tips? |

Cylinder 5 is the 3rd one back on the driver side. Ive have more problems from that one than any other. My headers are really close to the plug wire on that cylinder and have melted the plug wire boot before. Also my adventures into 7400 rpm helped me float that intake valve, which also ended up bending that pushrod. |

Fuel, Air, Spark, and Compression must all be correct to avoid a misfire.
Air is unlikely, but the other 3 are all suspect. Swap plugs w/ cyl 3 and inspect the plugs visually for quality of combustion. Then see if the misfire moves from 5 to 3 with the plug, repeat with coil if the plug is fine. And check compression & leak down at some point while the plug is out. If all of that checks out OK, suspect the injector. |

Update with some good news. Fingers crossed! Took the car out tonight and no issues. Didn’t have a long drive but got into good a handful of times for some length and nothing but good performance. Forgot how damn fast this zl1 is. Holy shit! Too many deer out and was losing light but hopefully the loose air cleaner boot screwed with the MAF or something and now it’s fixed! . Supposed to get warm this weekend so will run it more and hopefully shes healed

Inspect the wires leading to the coil on number 5. Just to make sure they arent nibbled into. It could be possible that the insulation is bare and the engine vibration is able to manipulate contact and no contact with the control wires. Technically the injector wires could be that way too but they are harder to see.

Any air leaks between the throttle body and maf sensor will skew fuel trims and cause issues. These cars are extremely picky about stuff like that. I run into this a lot tuning these cars.... loose clamps and catch can drain left open seem to be common mishaps. Hopefully that was the culprit!!
