Near Spring First Drive Woes

So. Take my car out that has been in a heated shop and not driven since probably Thanksgiving. Have 3 other cars. Mothballs and dryer sheets. Now to my first ride.
Fluids are all great. It’s 50 here, sunny day. Let it warm for 10 min. 6 miles into a very easy drive I get into I say half way at 30mph. Supercharger hits about 2oclock on the panel and the engine sounds like a jake break. Like missing a cylinder or something. Lay off it. Engine symbol comes on. Goes off when I let up. Wtf?

Car has 8k miles. Ran mint when I put it away. Stopped at the store. Ran it home. Did it again. Runs mint until heavy supercharger load.

Any ideas? I will take it to a good dealer but is my supercharger shot? Whines good up to the zero setting the. The jake break sounds in my exhaust.

Critter chew something?

Stock. Rotofab air intake. Atak muffler. So basically stock. Just happened today and I don’t have a code reader so have to get to dealer to troubleshoot and read codes.

It would be cheaper to buy a code reader

Stop by Autozone. They'll pull codes for free.

Or like Bishop said buy a code reader. Handy to have and cheap. $5-30 for a BT dongle + free to $30 app on your phone. Standalone code readers are $30-ish and up.

Thank you Bishop and Piening. I did not know readers were so affordable. I will look into one.

I did not treat the gas.

Not ruling that out but perfect performance otherwise.

The sound was like the rev limiter when getting into it. Only when getting on it.

Once I had a hose that came disconnected (I think it was at the firewall, that connected to the stock EVAP box) I had a very weird but kind of similar issue. It only happened when I got into the pedal. It might not hurt to make sure all your lines are securely connected. But I also had engine codes that kind told me, "bro, you have an issue" !

I am going to look over everything today. Weather back to 23 degrees! Really appreciate the tip to look at the hose and yes, I am going to get a code reader. Looking at them now. Trying to figure out which one to get. Lmk if you have any suggestions. I don’t want junk but also, I am no professional mechanic but know enough do the simple stuff.

Which codes did you get if you remember? P0171 or P0174 possibly? I have been having this problem for a while but only at full throttle, didn't matter what gear I was in (auto). Seems like if I back off the throttle a hair it goes away a little and I can still accelerate but just not as quickly.

I honestly don't know how my tuner got a dyno run on my car if it runs the way it does for me.

Ill still never understand how people can throw THOUSANDS of dollars at their vehicles but can't buy a $50 OBD2 scanner.

Then again, the posts will just go from "i got a check engine light on who can guess what it is since I dont have a scanner" to "i got code P1234 and dont know gow to use Google to find out the problem so can someone Google it for me"

I used a matco scanner (md1012) for 10+ years. about as basic as you can get but tells you all the info you need and even tells you if its ready to test emissions or any pending codes.
I recently picked up a topdon 900 lite and its fun to mess with. Overkill for most. Does the same stuff my Marco did. But this 1 is bidirectional and really helpful to determine what's exactly wrong vs throwing parts at a P code

I have this BT dongle for Android ($15)-
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011NSX27A

If you use an iPhone ($40)-
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076XVQMVS

Those need an app on your phone to work. Torque Lite is free (but limited), Torque Pro, Car Scanner, and OBD Fusion cost $5-10. Those are all on Android. I'm sure some are available for iPhone, but I don't have one so...

I've also got this standalone unit too ($50)-
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UJV3E12

AZIroc. Get it. I do want more tools and toys. Just balancing getting my kids through college so it’s tough but like you said, it’s a good investment. I didn’t know scanners were reasonable.

ANCEL BD310 OBD2 Scanner

I bought this one on amazon. Wanted to read codes today but didn’t care for the two models I could find locally. Will let folks know if this scanner is any good. Arrives tomorrow.

No loose hose on firewall unfortunately. Have to say though. Air cleaner and related rubber boots were “wiggleable”. Maybe?
