Ryan, I drive mine all year as a DD so all I have to look forward to is an all day spa/detailing on it in the spring.

Indy roads are terrible right now, I hate driving my 2019 Silverado (pot holes and everything not the snow). Hoping March turns things around, I picked mine up almost a year ago and was driving it when it was in the 30s, however we didnt get this much snow either.

Taking her in this morning for the heads and cam install. I purchased the SS2 cam and ported heads from GPI, along with all the accompanying internals. etc. Should have it back in a week. I cannot wait to get her back and her that chop.

Wet sanding the orange peel out of the fender and door last night. I've done the rest of the car but the rear quarter which is today's project. Wet sanding an entire car is a big undertaking, in case you didn't know. My shoulders are talking to me today. (The car was vandalized last fall and was an entire repaint. The black vinyl on the hood and roof have yet to be applied because the paint has to off gas for 90 days, plus it's winter here)

That's quite ambitious, a lot of elbow, erm, shoulder grease
How thick is your paint? Mine is only 3.9 to 4.5 mils, and I wouldn't dare wet sand it to be honest.

Factory the paint was 115-140 microns.(4.5-5.5 mils)
Post repaint it is 240.(9.4 mils)
The new hood is thin, it's only 80 microns. (3.1 mils)
The hood will not get wet sanded and if it needed I still wouldn't do it because it's so thin.
I measure frequently and am cutting with mostly 2k followed by 3k. On the door I had to use 1200. Otherwise all dirt nibs and the car has only needed 2k. The polishing is the hardest. I admit my limitations and will not use a rotary so I use my gear driven DA (FLex) or my RUpes and use a compound on a cutting pad followed by a less aggressive polish on a medium cutting pad to finish it off. That's where the time is spent because a DA does not cut as fast as a rotary. But I'm not risking burning though clear and the safety a DA provides that a rotary does not gives me all the reassurance I need to feel confident in these types of jobs. I typically do 1 and 2 steps, ceramic coatings, wax applications...the usual detailing gig. I've been in healthcare for 25 years but you wouldn't know it based on my small customer base and time spent on the Camaro.

4 out of 6 windows were replaced along with the hood and the roof repaired. It was in the shop 2 months. Towards the end we were fighting MI weather and I got her home 3 days before Xmas but she didn't have the final cut and buff done. As a detailer who has a passion for this car I wasn't happy to have this kind of job delegated to me but TBH, in all fairness, no one can do as good of a a job as I can on that car. Admittedly I'm a perfectionist so in a way I'm just glad she's home and I am the one to make her look amazing again. I'll be happiest when the black vinyl goes back on the hood an roof as well as the PPF on the front clip. Hagerty was good to me and all in all they cut me a 15k check in an expedient fashion. I pay $560 a year for Hagerty with roadside. I couldn't ask for a better insurance company.

EDIT They used 190 ounces of clear on this car. That's an insane amount-so that also helps me to feel confidemt in what I'm doing. The shop staff know me and knew what i'd be doing to this car so they went a bit overboard....

That seems like an excellent price.

I'd be very happy with that, but I'm expecting it to be more in the $4500+ range. If I recall, the initial estimate was before the head work.

Val, I use a rotary buffer that has a clutch. You cannot burn through the paint. Works very well.

All makes sense, thanks for the info, 2000/3000 grit doesn't do much damage even when I zone out a bit and stay in one spot too long (oops).

Your approach is very respectable, and I'm glad the body shop gave you so much buffer to work with

Griffin Motorsports belly pan

Finally installed my Griffin Motorsports belly pan that I designed for the AWE Track edition Cat Back exhaust owners, custom powder coated to match Camaro, WOW, what a game changer, really cleaned up that open cavity where the suitcase muffler used to be.

With the style of rear diffuser I have, I had to sandwich pan in between diffuser and diffuser brackets, turned out to be a really clean install

For those of you that have an AWE Track edition Cat-Back exhaust, I highly suggest you go check out
griffin-motorsports.com and get one of these pans for yourself.

I hate it when I load my pictures right, but, then when they finally get uploaded the 2nd pic is upside down
