On the battery, the other problem is the car's system doesn't keep it fully charged. This is the case with most modern cars and it's done to save a tiny amount of fuel. The problem with this is it kills the battery much faster and of course it does so gradually and then you have these odd issues and it can take a while to figure out it's your battery. If you never charge it manually you usually get a few years, I think if you regularly charge it you'll extend that to at least double. Mine is on year 5 so far.

I use a CTek 5A smart charger before every autox/track event and it usually spends a good bit of time charging. It's the same unit GM sells for the car.

I have heard if you manually turn on your headlights on then the system will also charge the battery, but I haven't looked into that yet. If true and running a smaller battery that might not have enough capacity, the solution might be to simply turn the headlights on.

Weight savings on a street car is a tough on. Removing the rear seats and trim makes the car louder, lighter body parts, wheels and brakes cost a fortune and it's not smart to compromise safety. But wheels are worth it as most people assess a 6x factor for wheels/tires vs sprung weight. Larger tires can weigh a lot, not much you can do. I am very much looking forward to running the new 335/30/18 Bridgestone RE71RZ tires, even at 34 lbs each.

On a track car Pratt Miller got the GT4R down to about 3200 lbs. I would just buy one if I could afford it, about $100k or so used.

Nah, you'll be fine without charging manually so long as you're driving it long enough to actually charge it during use. And it will last as long as it's supposed to doing that. Oem batteries will last over 5 years easy. Replacement batteries will vary based on quality and manufacture date.

I wouldn't bother with weight savings unless your car is a dedicated track car....in which case you probably don't need to ask here about weight savings. No point in making it miserable to drive to get performance you can't use on public roads if it's your daily or fun driver. It's not a third gen, it comes high performance.

I'm actually just interested in how the sodium ion batteries compare to the lead acid ones. Our cars take H6 batteries so at least they are available. I will wait till after Christmas and then buy a couple for my diesel k5 blazer. Run them for a few months to see if it would be worth it in the camaro.

Hey gentleman, love the passionate perspectives on battery choices, perhaps you can start a new thread, or jump on a call to discuss who is right...

I'd like to move this thread back to the core topic...

Please share your experience with weight reduction mods, post your photos, before and after weights, so we can all learn from the actual "cost per dollar"

This 100%.

Just so I’m not breaking my own rules lol:

Front sway bar with end links and brackets: 10 lbs 11 oz
Cost to remove: zero

Ok, that might not be for everyone but drag racers are cool with it.

There is a brace under the center of the car. Would it hurt to take that off to shed some pounds?

Are you talking about the tunnel brace?

Possibly. It's just under the exhaust. Mine is an aftermarket 1/8in plate with a brand name cut in it.

Mine has been gone for several years lol. Didn’t fit with my exhaust so into the scrap heap it went.

Cool

Okay... I removed the front Closeout Panel and replaced it with an aluminum one to drop a little weight, but more to remove the airflow from under the car being forced through the garbage AuxTrans Cooler. It had been hacked up a bit to facilitate the 9Lives Splitter I removed... but it still weighs more than the Aluminum panel I laser cut to fit perfectly.

Also removed the Impact bar and replaced it with my own design which also supports removing the AuxTrans cooler.
