All things being equal between a GM model and another brand that had Carplay it might push me towards the non GM model. I don't use it in my Camaro as it has NAV and I like that it integrates with the HUD. However, I just purchased a new 2025 Colorado and will use Carplay on it.

If I liked the car enough I'd probably buy it anyway, but I would probably miss it if I didn't have it.

While I don't use AA everytime I drive somewhere, when I need the maps, Google maps is just so good. Works flawlessly in my 2023. I also use Spotify when I want to listen to something different (I don't update my USB stick music too often).

It's just nice having to not sign into anything. I just open AA, open the app, and I'm listening. Not to mention the text message support (no idea if that's a thing without AA/CP). It's nice to be able to glance over and see if it's something you can ignore or not.

...the way technology spins round and round

1. Automakers come up with integrated infotainment systems, but treat them like a red-headed stepchild with cheap ass software and no upgrades after charging a nice fee for them
2. Third parties figure out a better way (CarPlay, AA), but car companies still drag their feet
3. Automakers (except Tesla) are forced to support CarPlay and AA because they can't be bothered to compete themselves and people want to use their phones in their vehicles
4. Automakers come up with new integrated infotainment systems [and ditch CarPlay and AA because they want their slice of that sweet user data pie]

...now, can you guess what step 5 will be? Check the second part of step 1, plus add mandatory subscription fees Reality doesn't matter to them anymore, it's all about the stock price.

Agreed and they ain't the only ones where Reality doesn't matter.
The circle is complete says Vader. Seriously isn't this the way in almost all situations of the type.

I have a GMC truck that has integrated Google Maps that I can use or AA.
The integrated maps also show real time traffic, so functionally identical to AA maps.
Biggest benefit to using it in lieu of AA is the phone doesn't get hot while charging and broadcasting Google Maps.

The only reason they want to get rid of it is so they can charge you a fee to use their own system through an Onstar subscription.
This, even if I know where I am going, I ALWAYS put up Android Auto, it gives me traffic and ETA information...

In 2016 we bought my wife a brand new Hyundai Sonata Sport, it had Android Auto... Once I saw that, I bought an after-market Pioneer Android Auto Head unit for my 2012 Hyundai Sonata and have been using it for nearly 10 years and absolutely love it... www.scosche.com made the perfect OEM looking dash panel to make it all look completely OEM... Perfect fit, perfect look...

Best purchase ever!!!

The car still has to have AA/CP functionality for the dongle to work. The dongle is just making a wired connection into a wireless connection. Plenty of older high end cars like early 2000s Lexus and Cadillacs have screens and USBs, but they can't do AA/CP. They need expensive interface boxes to make AA/CP work on the stock screen (or just rip them out entirely and replace them).

Makes sense..for some reason I was thinking that you might be able to side load the app but then chances are it would be wireless capability. Like you said, the Dongle just makes the connection wireless it doesn't enable the functionality. I spaced it

You can bet your ass that whatever proprietary GM software garbage they replace CarPlay and AA with will be exactly that, garbage.

My Camaro is the only car of three that has CarPlay and I do use it most times I drive my car.

Anything Chevy comes up with will be terrible.

They’ve already done it with the newer EV models

Yep. There was a company adding CP/AA to the GM EVs that don't have it. GM shut them down.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/gm-jus...it-for-its-evs

Also, the Honda Prologue EV still has AA/CP even thought it's just a reskinned Blazer EV.

No AA, no GM. Simple for me.

I don't typically brand shop, so its not big deal for me to jump to another make. Dodge, Lexus, Ford, Hyundai, GM, Toyobaru... what's next ?

Someone mentioned the built in Google but that’s for a fee right? I’m already paying for the Apple system so why do I need to pay for another? The iPhone is tech central.
